Is a 2002 Volvo V40 an interference engine?

This ad says needs timing belt

I take that to mean the belt has already broken.

Easy belt job or complex engine swap?

Yes, they are interfernce motors.   The price is a little high, as Volvos don't command big money.  (I have a 2008 S60, so I know)   Check out the accompanying info.

In reply to Dirtydog :

Oh, well. I don't want to deal with interfere

Agree, the price is high but my intentions were much closer to $500 but only if non-interference.

Not really worth the $$ or aggravation if intended for a flip.   Proper maintainence is crucial on Volvo's, BMW's, etc.

I agree.  This is either a good price on a running car or a high price on a non-running car.

I did send the seller an email and ask if the car is currently running on the outside chance that "needs belt" means "due for scheduled interval replacement of belt."

100K is around the time they are due.   My guess is the engine is puked.
