My girlfriend and I just moved into a new apartment; it used to be a bar in the 1930's, and still retains the awesome 12ft ceilings and massive main room (we basically sleep in what would have been the stockroom, and the rest of the place is one huge room with a tiny bathroom tacked on). As such, there's a TON of wall space to fill. I'm wondering if anyone knows where a guy can find LARGE format vintage racing art/photo/poster prints; I'm pretty fond of 60's & 70's F1/Le Mans/Can Am stuff, 80's to an extent as well I guess.

I can just envision a huge 60x84 print of Jim Clark between the windows, and how awesome that would be. Does such a thing exist?

(I did already order this kickass 20x60 Japanese Le Mans poster reprint, wouldn't you?) http://www.moviegoods.com//Assets/product_images/1020/292927.1020.A.jpg

I've done a few posters for friends. If you find pics, I've got a large format art printer - 36 x ???? I think there's another member or two that have sign shops that could go bigger. This one was from a quick pic the guy took in his back yard - yeah, nice yard.

They'll take your picture and make it a big sticker. We did one of a Bodhi tree for the back of our 85 gallon aquarium.

I just want to quote this to make sure that everybody notices the motorcycle in what appears to be the living room.

I have a large 2nd Annual Monaco Grand Prix poster in a frame I got at Jo Ann Fabrics. It was relatively in expensive and I have found other vintage reprints at other craft and hobby stores. They all seem inexpensive.

I have a 72x48 in my stairwell of a vintage cobra by a lighthouse along with some recent (but older looking Audi 20x14's) I got them all at a local art shop that I worked at part time. Look up rhondamyers.com, and look at "cheesy cars" Its just another option for some big art. She will do custom stuff too.

Mine isnt the "sold" one on the website though...

That Lemans Poster is awesome. I recently bought some posters off Ebay, and one was way too big for my purposes. I underestimated how big it would be, it was around 24" x 48" I tend to stick around the 26" x 11" region, but then again I don't have those old school spaces.

Here's some of mine from Ebay over time:

You could also DIY. Beg borrow or rent an opaque projector and paint your favorite picture on the wall. I did that in College. They told us we could paint murals on the walls outside our dorm rooms. I did one using an opaque projector and one by just drawing a grid on the picture and a grid on the wall and that lets non-artistic folk like me break it down into smaller pieces that are easier to reproduce.

Yep... that's the origin of "graphic" art.

The second one on randomized color construction paper... I think it would look pretty awesome.

Find a local printer. Find an ultra hi-res image you like. Let him or her know it's for personal use. They should be able to print you a high-quality Giclee print on canvas as wide as the printer (40-60" in most cases) and as loooooooong as you want. Take it to a custom framer and have it stretched, or build your own stretcher and do it yourself.

You'll need to log in to post.
