I got rid of my Otterbox because of the difficulty of sliding it out of my pocket,

My Speck hard case with rubber liner has worked great. Dropped it many times without issues. I think the screen protector adds just that little bit more of impact resistance to the glass.

I got an Otterbox Defender for my iphone4s, with the case it's the same thickness as my old Blackberry so the bulkiness doesn't bother me. It's been good to me so far and after the junkyard or garage I just get a cloth and some cleaner and all the grease comes off like new.

Funny Otterbox story - I got my iPhone in November and put the 'box on it before leaving the store. A week later, dropped the phone and broke a corner tab on the plastic subskeleton of the case. Annoying, but not a functional issue. My wife suggested I should file a warranty claim on it since OB has a 1 yr warranty. I declined since it wasn't, in fact, a defect. A month later I broke the belt clip for the case by dropping it 2 feet. Really. I figure, what the hay, and find a generic email contact on the OB website for warranty repairs. I send in an email saying I broke my clip and asking how I start the warranty claim process. I expected needing photos, receipt, blood type, credit history, etc.

I get THREE emails back from THREE different people offering to happily send me another clip if I will tell them my address, the case type, and what color.

So what would you do?

Yeah, me too.

I write up an email telling my address, case type and color (black on black) and, oh, btw, when the clip broke It cracked the substructure on the case too, can they help with that? I COPY AND PASTE the exact same reply to all 3 customer service people. I mean, surely they'll catch the duplicates, right?

only one did. After the other two had already mailed. And since they aparantly didn't have any black/black cases and they felt the need to send me a whole brand new case, I now have: 3 new belt clips, 2 new complete black cases with white silicone and 2 replacement black silicones to make a black/black case out of a black/white case.

I feel a little bad except:

I paid $50 full retail for $1 worth of molded ABS and silicone

I never requeste FULL cases, only the broken parts

I only sent ONE email, it was their idea to reply from several people.

I will say this, though, the next case I buy will be an Otterbox, and the one I buy after that as well. And I will happily reccomend them to anyone!

PS - and my wife is using the extra case, before anyone asks to get it for the cost of shipping ;-)

I got the OtterBox Defender for my 4S. Awesome case since I'm primarily am out in the field for work playing with dirt/rocks/sediment. I wasn't going to go with anything else after seeing how easy it is to download the spiderweb app (the term my friend came up with when he broke his screen) on either the screen or the back of the case as it's made of glass too.

I have this one:

http://www.seidio.com/convert/

I told the guy at the Verizon store that my phone would take a beating at work and he went right to this one. I bought it without thinking too much about it. I love it.

A month later, I read a review of iPhone protectors in an offroad magazine and they said that this is the toughest one out there.

I've seen the Otterbox, but I like the Seidio better.

On my 3G and now my 3Gs I have this case:

With a generic screen cover.

My 3G has survived about 3 years of abuse in my pocket only some scratching on the back of the case where dirt was lodged between the case and the phone. A scratch on the screen protector from something in my pocket and a broken ringer switch on the side.

I've got a couple of OtterBoxes and they work well for when I used the phone at the track, but they are a bit bulky for daily use, IMO.

Before I upgrade to a 4 or 4S, I'm going to try and find a similar case for it, because..... well I'm a car guy.

isn't this reason enough to buy a Seidio?

"Last week while leaving for a business trip, I was leaving my house when I noticed I didn't have my phone. I turned around and headed back to my home where I pulled into the driveway to see my phone sitting in the center of my trucks tire marks in the dusting of snow that was on the driveway. I immediately paniced thinking I would be without a phone, but surprisingly when I picked my phone up off the driveway it was in working order, with only the case broken. I can not believe that I drove over my phone with a F250 and it was not broken." -David N.

The Otterbox company definitely stands behind there product. The few times anything has went wrong with either my case or the wifes , a simple phone call has put it right. They have my business for quite a while

For our 3GSs, the wife and I got the slim-fit Otterboxes that have a hard, clear ploycarb clip thing that covers most of the back and retains the silicone slipcase. Hardly adds any bulk to the phone, and has definitely protected them.

We also use 30-for-$10 Amazon screen protectors, but I'm not convinced those are required.

We got the industrial-strength Otterbox for DD1, because she is notoriously hard on equipment. It's done well against her attempts to Hulk-smash her phone into the ground.

+1 on the above. You need rubber (silicone) to absorb impact AND plastic to protect against the impact. The OtterBox Commuter is the best compromise between protection and bulk.

I have never used a screen protector, can't stand the bubbles and wrinkles and stuff in the way of my amazing screen.

I'm on my 2nd Otterbox Defender now and looking for something else. The 1st one's plastic broke at the lip where the charger tab slides into, so I wasn't able to close that tab. Wasn't even dropped that I can recall. Plus the silicone was getting loose on the left upper and lower corners. Otterbox customer service happily sent me a new one and it already has issues with the silicone, in fact it never worked quite as well as the first one from the start.

I saw that Otterbox is coming out with a waterproof case, different design where the silicone looks to be molded in at strategic sections vs a whole body skin, hopefully it comes out soon. Their customer service has me willing to give them another try, just not with the Defender line. It's either that or lifeproof.

I looked at otterbox and after reports of declining quality I went searching for some other options. After reading a bunch of reviews I went with a Lifeproof case (http://www.lifeproof.com)

Not cheap but well made and waterproof. The biggest hazzard to my phones is ending up in a puddle of something while Im working so that was a big selling point to me.

Only downside is the way the cover for the charging port is designed it only fits with the rounded corner apple chargers so if you have an aftermarket charger or radio cable it may not fit.

I use an Otter Box and a film type screen protector. My only compliant is the rubber part of the OB is kinda loose and the part that covers the charger port won't stay closed. I'm thinking about getting a Grifin Case.

I prefer the Otterbox 'Commuter'. Same idea but a bit less bulky and easy to slide in and out of my pocket.

I also prefer the satin screen protectors for minimizing fingerprints.

I got the OtterBox Defender, too. Yes, the silicone outer layer is sloppy, and the charger tab doesn't close. Yes, I emailed OB and they are sending a replacement, free.

But I also ripped out the screen protector portion. Within a month of owning it, it was too scratched to read the screen through.
