trying this in Michigan would result in brightly colored roads..

Good lord, I'll say. Poor Michigan, your up-state roads look like a crazy quilt of patches, while weeds grow everywhere in Detroit.

I take cones and put them in the larger potholes. If the hole is too big for the cone to be seen I take one of the metal trash cans off the sidewalk.

Apparently spray painting the potholes can work!

Around here if you damage you car in a reported pothole, they have to fix your car. It doesn't usually take long for things to get fixed. Not that the fix is going to be much smoother than the hole because the usually make mountains out of them.

I seem to remember a story where a guy did this, the city fined him, dug out the potholes he 'fixed', and then left the potholes as potholes.

I've done this … except I wait for a rain to fill the hole with water, the dump a bag of Sakrete in and let it harden … a couple of those "fixes" are still there 2 - 3 yrs later

but bouncing over a "speed bump" is easer on your suspension than driving through a pothole

Was listening to the radio yesterday on the way in and heard a story about somebody planting flowers in potholes to bring attention to them- I've encountered a few around here where that would take WAY too much potting soil, but it would be an amusing way to approach it.

Once?? That's not even trying. They are complaint driven. They won't even think about it until you call 50 times. Call Public Works multiple times. Make sure you say it is a traffic hazard. If that doesn't work, call your commissioner.

Still doesn't work.......we have complete destruction of places in roads out here, and its been that way for 6 weeks now. We are talking bad enough that they are going to have to tear up the old, put a new bed down, then repave. In one spot, it is currently nothing but asphalt chunks and rutted wet clay for a 50yd stretch.

I saw that a couple days ago and thought of this thread.

Hi Toebra,

Welcome aboard!

Although I live down in Ventura, I bounce over the pothole you speak of several times a year while visiting my mother in law who lives on Stollwood Drive.

Let me just tell you now, that's NOT always true!
