Title says it all.  If the Lexus GS ticks all my boxes, how many does the Hyundai Genesis tick?  Any problem areas?  Other concerns/observations/comparisons?

For the sake of narrowing down the discussion, let's stick to cars from model years 2015 to 2018.

I looked at the Genesis.  I liked it but two things held me back.  It's really soft, with a luxobarge feel.  Also, the interior was too Elantra grade for the money.  It's a good car but I think the GS is better.

The Lexus is Luxury Japanese, and feels like it

The Genesis is Upscale Korean, and feels like it.

I hope that makes sense.

FTFY.

Genesis is closer to an Infiniti in my mind.

Good to know. I'm not currently in the market for either, but I'm still going to make a mental note, just in case.

by 2015+ I think the genesis had worked out some of the earlier kinks like the oil consumption issues in 2012's and I think some of the early 8 speeds would have some kwirks, it is a zf8 that many other cars use but it's till Hyundai controlled and maybe has different internals? Personally I don't think I'd have reliability concerns. I think it would probably just come down to how you like the feel of it. I had a 2009 Genesis with the 4.6 v8 and it was a great car, I drove it to 210k+ miles with little to no issues, my understanding is they've only gotten better since then

I used to have a 2011 and a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. I now have a KIA Stinger. The only issues the Coupes ever gave me was, the 2013 had a stuck break caliper at around 70k miles. Besides that, all have been trouble free. I did cross shop Lexus when I got the stinger for my wife. Overall I felt the stinger was a lot more fun to drive and was just as nice

This comment would have a lot more impact if I could identify the source, so "Sorry in advance" [hey, I'm Canadian], but I recall somebody saying that the Hyundai Genesis and the original downsized GM B-bodies had something in common: each of them was a cohesive package that just "felt right" on the road. FWIW, YMMV, etc.

I've got nothing about the Lexus.

Lease Genesis all the way they have some astonishing deals and a few years in a new one is a very nice place to be.

Purchase there are other things at that price point I would look at over the Lexus and having to deal with the adm most dealers are still charging.

rational is to find the best RX possible and drive it into the ground.

I looked in to this a while back and the consensus is that while the Genisis is a nice car it is a 100k mile car quality wise where as the Lexus is a 250-500k
