got a new laptop for the kids' homeschool work. it's loaded with windows8, and it won't talk to my lexmark x9575 printer. in the house we've got two XP SP3 machines and one windows 7 machine and they're all good with the printer.
question 1: is windows8 the debil?
question 2: if windows8 is the debil, how do i backdate the new laptop to windows7?
we are not computer people, so please don't tell me i should be ubuntuing my linux or whatever the berkeley you computer dorks say. it's got to be an inside-the-box solution.
Dunno about your printer problem, you might try Googling for new drivers for the Lexmark and see what that brings up.
The kid's laptop with Win 7 finally just E36 M3 the bed, since she uses it for school it was imperative to replace it quick. Everything runs 8 now and it's not what I wanted, the guys at work are thoroughly disgusted with it but they are all using mouses/keyboards. Hers is a touch screen, 8 actually works pretty well with that.
Win8 may be the devil. I'd check around and see if your printer has drivers for Win8. I have a perfectly good inkjet scanner combo that never got updated for Win7.
Windows 7 and 8 more or less use the same drivers.
1.) Yes
2.) Download Start8 from Stardock software for $5 and configure it with all the Win7 settings.
3.) I'll be the repost police jerkwad and mention we had this same discussion within the last month.
According to the Pixies the devil is not 8, rather Man is 5, The Devil is 6, God is 7. No mention of 8.
I have nothing to add other than I fear Win 8 based on what i read here. So much so that I have a Win 8 netbook bought 9 months ago (Christmas Deal) that I have no opened or used yet.
Is it bad enough to say, I'd rather save my money up and buy a Mac? Even if the Win8 machine was free?
I owned a Win8 laptop for about 4 hours on Sunday. After I returned it, I ordered a used Macbook Pro for about 25% more. Because Win8 is, in my opinion, trash. Avoid.
According to folks in this thread, its nothing but smily wonderfullness. personally, i hate it.

Try this link: Lexmark Universal Printer Drivers
Edit: FYI: Win8 is a 64 bit operating system.
I still have no issues with8. I don't know what the hell you people are on about
its not horrid... but I do prefer win7... my laptop came with 8 so it's what I use... I installed retroUI so 95% of the time I don't notice the diff between this and my win7 computers
as for the printer... my mo-in-law has a win8 desktop that refused to work with a printer that was given to her (one of those wifi scanner, printer all on in combos)... it works fine on my win8 laptop...

If it was one of those $299 deals, keep it in the box. Not because Win8 is that bad, but rather because the hardware is so woefully overtasked that the PC will never run worth a damn without wiping it and converting to Ubuntu, etc.
No, you just need to get the correct new drivers from the printers manufacturers website.
You needs to Ubuntu yer Linux!
...and plug in yer printer.
You're more computer than me. WTF is debil?

Thanks for posting that so i dont ahve to post myscreenshot again. it's no worse than Win7 or XP. I have no problems doing work on it, and don't have any hacks running, just run it from the desktop and it looks and acts normal.
I really think a lot of you guys make this WAY more complicated than it needs to be, and then hate on that complication.

We HATE all things that are different and new!
By god I could get on the internet with AOL and Windows 98 why did they have to change it!

possibly true for some, but in my case there's no win8 driver for my printer, which is not MS's fault but still blows.
