they have been using them for years as everything from hauling people and cargo to mobile missile launchers. Nothing new here

Even terrorists know you can't kill a hilux

This was news to me. once isis is destroyed, maybe all those yotas will find a way over here. I'd love a dependable truck with a missle launching turret on the back. Of course mine would be outfitted with a slingshot that fires ice cream into the mouths of children.

During Desert Shield/Storm I was attached to a field hospital set up in the desert out past the neutral zone. Each night a few shots from a heavy machine gun were fired in our general direction from the north, never hitting anything but making the nurses nervous.

I recently bought an 84' Toyota 1/2 ton pickup, aka Hilux everywhere else on earth. Beige, brown vinyl bench, Carbed 22R motor, 4 speed manual. It was partially on the basis that it took Top Gear 3 episodes to kill one, and every insurgency since the mid-80s has relied on them.

It's pretty awesome.

If I remember correctly, it didn't die, they just retired it to stage prop. Because it drove in to the studio under it's own power after all the abuse.

Well I'm sure they don't have to worry about rust over there and I'm unaware of much else that can kill an old 'Yota.

Yup. The final abuse was sitting atop a high rise apartment building while it underwent a controlled demolition, dropping to the ground, getting dug out of the rubble. I believe the frame had snapped, and it was driving under its own power with the driveshaft holding the front and back together.

They decided it was worthy of a plinth.
