Although it's not even Thanksgiving, my "winter project" is just about finished.
An El Camino would be nice but they're just expensive. Hugeass land yachts are easier to come by, usually driven lighter than a small truck/car. So..... make a Roadmaster wagon into Roadmaster-Mino? Country Cadillac?

Use your imagination, and photo shop; move the rear glass forward, scoop out the back and the gate remains the same.
I can look at that right now and tell you that if you just move the rear glass forward, the bed will only be about as long as the rear doors. It would be better to chop the rear glass and roof off and then cap off the cabin just behind the seats with lexan and sheet metal. This way the bed will be about as long as the rear glass.

I want one too. But I need a crew cab. 4 door palomino?
Go google image search "flower car".

It's a gawdawful hack, but I found it useful. I don't think it's an issue of perspective, but it seems like the roof height at the back end of the wagon is significantly different than at the back edge of the driver's door.
Get out the measuring tape, you might not want to bother with that back glass. Or maybe I just misunderstood what you were planning.
On the other hand, the rear doors on a Roadmaster sedan have two glass pieces - take the rearmost of those, integrate it into a sweeping 'flying buttress' sorta thing? I started with the back half of a sedan roof, but the portion rear of the glass seemed too visually bulky to work, though that may be a trick of poor alignment between the sedan and wagon pics...
I was leaning toward a wagon only because the gate is already in; that's a BUNCH of fabrication.

Flower cars are boss too.
a long time ago (late 90's, perhaps) someone made a 2 door Caprice that looked like it was factory built, complete with longer doors and everything.. something like that with an El Camino inspired bed on the back would be pretty cool- especially if the rear jump seat was left in place..

Oh, I wasn't suggesting you start with a sedan, just steal the glass from one. Those pics are exactly the sort of thing I was imagining.
Is it wrong I don't care for the idea of cutting up a Roadmaster wagon? To me, they're one of the newer cars that I'd consider a true "classic".

it's not "wrong"... exactly... but it is weird.. but no more weird than worshipping cars powered by spinning triangles and cars that only a hairdresser looks right in..

A couple of mentions of Flower Cars. The few that I've looked at over the years had massive amounts of filler where the mods were made. Perhaps some coach companies did better work than others.

i'd only cut it if i were going to do it right, or if it were rusty and i was going to hack the hell out of it and not care.
i wouldn't cut a low mile unicorn.
Unicorns are rare and pricey. I'd Saw-Zall this into dust and sleep quite well at night.
