This is also the first time I thought I might prefer a metal watch band. I think I'll buy the "bracelet" and stick my $50 G-Shock watch on it though.

The band can be ordered on its own, but there's nothing about fitting your own watch face to it. But if there is a way to do it, then I've found my next watch band.
It says they're working on a universal adapter- when that happens, I'll seriously consider getting one and putting my Pebble on it. Granted, I also have a TSA-approved mini-Leatherman and their flat multitool that I carry when I fly, but this would be nice and convenient.
The basic version with just the band will be about $150 to $200, which isn't too bad. But why does the version with the watch cost $500-$600? That kinda defeats the purpose of a rugged multitool that you wear on your wrist. I'm sure as hell not going to drop that kind of coin on something that will get scratched and beat up.
It's a tool, not a dressup accessory .
If they are indeed coming out with a universal watch attachment module for it, then the $400+ watch face they offer simply exists as an opportunity for the more-money-than-brains crowd to fleece themselves
That's a novel idea, but I never use any of the tips in my Gerber. I use the knife and the pliers. They could take the rest of the crap out and I would never miss it.
Three digit watch? WTF good is it? It would be okay from 1:00 until 9:59, but after that, you're going to wish you had paid extra for the fourth digit!
I like the idea, but here's the list of tools, and...
How many of them are actually necessary? 7 different screwdrivers? An oxygen bottle wrench? #2 square drive?
Edit to add: what I think would be better would be a customizable set, for example, you can pick up to 8 links from a great big list of tools. Have one band that's all metric hexes, one that's all SAE hexes and it makes a little more sense to me.

At least one of the links has a 10mm wrench. Maybe this one won't get lost so easily.

Uhh.... That is exactly what it is. The Leatherman CEO said he has 8 on his wrist; the lady writing the article said she'd probably have 5.
In reply to mtn:
Not quite what I meant. There are a total of 8 links available, not counting the clasp part, and you pay for all of them whether you need/want those tools or not. There should be more choices (let's say 20 different links with different tools), and you only pay for the ones you want/need. As it is now, even if you don't want to wear the link with the #2 square drive, you're still paying for it.

Yes it will, it will just cost you $150 to replace rather than $1.50.
