I have the material or can get it locally to fab my own set. I'd tend to over build things like that. I like the idea of a 1' square base plate but I only work on concrete anymore so not really needed. Fabbing isn't practical when store bought saves time, money and appears stout enough.
Slept in today so never made it to the stores. No rush anyway, it's twenty degrees outside, plenty of time to look.

I have a pair of those also. They are heavy duty and reach quite high.

These are really nice but seriously expensive.
I picked up the set three weeks ago, figured it would be the last set I'd buy after not being that comfortable with the 2/3-ton princess auto/craftsman/chinese cast jack stands.
The set of 4 was $234 shipped from: http://www.reverselogic.us/jack-stands.html
Really isn't that much when you consider the cost of a decent floor jack.
Have to say I was quite happy with them doing the wheel bearings two weeks ago. Although the car was stable with the old ones, it was much more so with the esco's, and the reviews online talking about build quality are accurate. I'd buy them again without hesitation.
I hope you didn't select the T43004 model though. The only design stupider than that one is the fully rounded base. At least that one has a wee bit of flatting to faintly help prevent rolling when cocked.

I've got the VatoZone versions of the Big Red jack stands. They are sturdy as hell. I hardly ever raise them up as they are pretty tall as they sit. I never want to be under a car sitting on jack stands that is higher than 24" off the ground, freaks me out.
I've thought about making some big stacked wood blocks with cradles but I have nowhere to put them.
I need another set myself... and so I think this is a good time to use up my scrap roll cage tubing pile and make my own. All of the ones I have have something that annoys me. Either they don't go high enough, or they are wobbly at full height or the shape of the top is curved like it's for an axle and I have to use wood blocks... time to make my own tools to fit the job.

No went with the triangle type with the 12" base, for some reason I can't get past entrusting my life to asain cast aluminum.
Bought four of the Torin 'Big Red' 6T jack stands today at TSC for $24.95 ea. Quality appears good and are stout looking. Wide base and nodular iron saddle/ ratchet, max height about 23-1/2". No separate locking pin on these tho.
Coulda shopped around more, waited for sales etc. These should work well for what I need.
Done.
Those are good ones, and a fair price. Sales are nice but those will last a while so the cost over their life is negligible.

on the page that is linked it says this:
ALWAYS USE JACK STANDS IN PAIRS. DO NOT SUPPORT YOUR CAR WITH ONE, THREE, OR FOUR JACK STANDS. USE WHEEL CHOCKS IN FRONT AND BEHIND THE WHEELS ON THE GROUND.
I have always used 4 stands. What are they talking about?
