I blame Jerry Springer personally for a large portion of popular culture's descent into aggressive idiocy.
Stupidity and rudeness are not virtues.
I always found it entertaining that a political genius settled on making his living by hosting a show about lowest-common-denominator humans being terrible and trashy to each other, a show most appealing to terrible and trashy people. There are layers of meaning there...

If he hadn't, somebody else would have.

In reply to aircooled :
Where's Steve when you need him.
Kids will never experience the guilty joy of watching Jerry on a sick day.
RIP, Mr. Springer.

Steve's busy https://stevewilkos.com/where-to-watch/
IMHO you can't blame Jerry for the descent of popular culture into aggressive idiocy. It was already happening, he just put it on TV.. And it was a guilty pleasure for me as well.. RIP

Then I would be blaming that person(s).

I blame him for celebrating it.

Was he first, or Morton Downey Jr? Or Geraldo?
In my book, the other two pandered to idiots, but didn't court / reward / promote rudeness and aggression and animosity the way Springer did.

Agreed. Nobody put a gun to anyone's head and forced them to watch this crap. But that doesn't mean I have to mourn when one of the crap purveyors passes away. Honestly, he meant nothing to me other than being a famous name.
I watched the game shows, never springer- it was just silly. Never understood why I should care who some random kids dad was. Or some other thing that I should care about.
To me, the only real loser today is Connie Chung. Other than that, things got a little better

If anything Jenny Jones is WAY more guilty than Springer ever was / would be for doing such. Springer,as its well known, was mostly faked & a scripted over the top sitcom "talkshow". Jenny Jones legit got someone killed because she brought actual trashy people to TV, with their legit problems aired live, not just people looking for a funny quick 5 minutes of fame off some faked & exaggerated BS, like Springer did.
Besides, the real downfall of modern civilization is the internet, as we have come to know it, and social media, especially. Just my .02 of a buck.
I prefer to remember him as the Cincinnati councilman that paid for hookers with personal checks. I remember living in Cincinnati when his show was still taped there before they moved from local to national.
RIP Jerry
Lol I read this as Jerry Jones? What does football have to do with this.

The most famous person in the world could die, and someone would have to pipe up with this tired old comment.

I never watched him either. In fact, just the horrible sound of people going "ooooOOOOhhhh!" while I was channel flicking was enough to keep me pressing that button.
And, Connie is married to Maury Povich.
