Yeah, the band with that one hit. It was everywhere in the early ’90s.

My guitar teacher just pinged me: Tonight we’re learning Right Here, Right Now.

Lately we’ve been doing songs that he’s played a lot. As a gigging musician in Florida, it’s mostly popular covers for him. I just thought it would fun to learn some songs that he’s played hundreds of times. (I laughed when he said he’s learn 8675309, but now it’s pretty much my warm-up song.)

Anyway, back to Jesus Jones: According to the all-knowing Wikipedia, the band is still comprised of the original 1988 lineup–the original drummer stepped away for a few years, though. Still, that’s impressive.

Saw them live in a little club just about the time Right Here Right Now hit.  Maybe 600 people in the room.  They blew the main breaker with their PA, but other than that it was a fun show.

Ned's Atomic Dustbin opened for them.

I came so close to seeing Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. They played a little club within walking distance. By the time we got there, it was sold out. Lesson learned.

I always liked Real, Real, Real by them.

That's cool. I need a guitar teacher like that.

Jesus Jones and Tripping Daisy were the one hit wonders who's catalogs I celebrated, and still enjoy, in their entity the most. I think each would've faired much better as independent artist who self produced and focused on touring.

Jesus Jones had two top five hits in the USA.  I had previously mentioned their first single,  Real, Real, Real.

I have learned a lot from Randy: playing bass, yes, but also just how the music industry (and life) can work.

And an update: I have not played the Jesus Jones song since our lesson. The week before we did some Ramones, so of course playing that. :)
