Don't really know about JFK, always thought it was the mob. They give you an election and you give them nothing?
Don't berkeley with the mob.
Anyway the really bad ass presidents were the ones who got shot and survived.

7th Grade study hall. Dave "Mudd" Rasch ran into the room and exclaimed, "The President's been shot!" We had a TV in the room, as we were videotaping our speeches for English class, so we turned it on to watch the reports.

There was an interesting aricle by some retired FBI agents in Playboy. Supported the mob theory and the shooter from the front.
JFK had hooked-up with a mob-moll; maybe he REALLY PO'd one of the mafioso bosses.
A sniping is easier to pull off than cement overshoes and a trip to Jersey.

There is actually a list of plots
Admittedly... a bit weak but even though they were complete idiots - they did put it in action.

Don't know if there was anything credible, but there were some yahoos here in Denver had a "plan" to get him during the DNC. Didn't seem like they had a snowball's chance, but they were arrested for it.
Yeah, here it is: http://cbs4denver.com/investigates/assisination.plot.obama.2.802827.html

Theodore Roosevelt... running for re-election (he was out of office at the time) with the new progressive party was shot at close range with a .38 pistol. It went thru his prepared speech, his glasses case and lodged in his chest.
He called for quiet... and gave a shorter speech.
That is pretty badass.
Come on. More than one shooter. I'm sure Oswald could've done it alone. But if you want it done right...you build in redundancy.
It's been covered up as it was a complete failure by one of the two most powerful countries in the world at that time. Would you publicize that Castro assassinated the Prez? Especially when we can assassinate Castro first?
More than one shooter. Failure of the best security force in the world to protect the leader of the free world.
I'm with Hess. Time Travellers. Because the next question is who? Maybe the shadow government that let's us think we have free elections all while rigging the results to keep the populace happy, distracted, and fighting amongst themselves. Read this book - Neal Stephenson and George Jewsbury's Interface.

Sweet! I was just looking for something to pick-up for a long flight. His Cryptonomicon was great but I have not read anything else he has done since Snow Crash. Off to Borders....
LBJ, he had connections that stood to profit from 'Nam and Kennedy was gonna pull out...
And it was in his home state...

+1 The Texas Connection was a great book that outlined LBJ's potential motives. Harold Livingstone wrote some great books on this subject, as well. The basic theory was that the Texas oilmen (who had at the time invested in the defense industry) wanted to make sure their investment panned out. Kennedy had already issued an EO pulling troops out of Vietnam, which would have killed their investments. There was a meeting the night before the meeting at HL Hunt's house, which the guest list read like a who's who of power in America over the next 20 years (Gerald Ford, Nixon, LBJ, Hoover, etc.).
I always say follow the money, and this is the theory that I subscribe to.

Wow, I've known about this since I was a kid when Regan was shot, but I had no idea that the origin of it was less than 5-miles from where I sit right now.... Cool!
Multiple shooters, no question in my mind. IIRC they've been trying to duplicate that shot for decades and nobody's been able to do it.

Sure. I have a copy of the Warren Commission report....let me know which passages to quote here to make you build a bigger hat.
I say it was Cuba. Bay of Pigs Invasion , assassination attempts on Castro and Oswald had been a resident there prior to returning to the US.

Glad to help Snorklewacker. Love Stephenson. Although I was a bit put off by Anathem.
BACK ON TOPIC!
Do you guys think the Kennedy assassination was a quiet revolution that we, the citizens, missed completely?
Is it possible for a single shooter to have taken the shots? Yes completely possible for a skilled marksman. Heck I have hit a target multiple times in a similar amount of time using my Mosin. Had it on a bipod, in prone, kept it shouldered and worked the action with my left hand I was just messing around to see how fast I could possibly some what accurately shoot the M44. I would actually be slower with another more modern rifle because of the bent bolt and position of the scope.
Now I think it is more likely that there would have been a small team for such a high profile assassination to make sure things happened as planned. Could be multiple shooters and additional spotters to watch not only the target and the reaction from the crowd and secret service.
I think it was high blood pressure

New Theories Suggest Kennedy Wasn't Shot
DALLAS—A controversial new book about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy has raised questions not about the role of a lone gunman or a conspiracy of shooters, but about whether the late president was even even shot at all.
Kennedy, just moments before the self-generated cranium-shattering heard around the world. While the book, Outside the Crosshairs, does not dispute the fact that a massive portion of Kennedy's skull was separated from his head during the 1963 Dallas visit, it maintains that the president suffered fatal explosive- cranial trauma through means completely unrelated to gunshots.
"Certainly extreme force was involved in this tragic death," said Dr. Horace Musashi, the book's author and a professor of computer science at Mount Union College in Alliance, OH. "However, none of the available photographs or recorded footage provides even a shred of evidence that an actual bullet did anything to Kennedy's body. As scientists, therefore, we must consider all other possibilities, no matter how much they challenge the status quo."
Musashi himself favors an explanation known as the single-massive-spike-in-blood-pressure theory.
After 11 years of painstaking research, Musashi uncovered testimony from anonymous eyewitnesses who claimed that unopened packets of duck sauce and soy sauce were hastily removed from Air Force One after the assassination. According to the book's findings, the extremely high levels of monosodium glutamate combined with the stress of mediating an intense international ballistic-missile crisis caused Kennedy's systolic pressure to mount to the point where the right rear quarter of his cranium "shot clean off."
'There are a lot of unanswered questions about the sudden uptick in Brazil-nut imports to Dallas in the year before Kennedy's death.' Retired detective Joseph Czyz "Case closed," Musashi said. "Mass hysteria accounts for everything else."
The book has also sparked popular interest in a number of related theories. Retired police officer Joseph Czyz, who in 1991 was on the scene at Dealy Plaza for JFK-Fest, an assassination-reenactment weekend, claims Musashi and adherents to the single-massive-spike-in-blood-pressure theory have been led astray by carefully placed red herrings.
47 years ago today.
Things sure have changed, no way are news people strolling the halls, hanging out in doorways when an alleged assasin is brought in.

Unless you're talking about using THAT rifle and THAT ammunition, live human target, bullet placement to the millimeter, etc, all the mechanics have been duplicated and bettered several times.
In '67 or so, one of the networks had a bunch of people try. Same make/model of rifle and scope, from a scaffold, towed targets, same geometry. Several shooters got three head shots on the moving target.
Even the "magic bullet" two-fer (Kennedy's neck and Connally's chest, wrist, and leg) has been replicated pretty closely with ballistic gel and simulated bone targets. Yes, the bullet held together despite hitting an extra "rib" in the process.
