In last nights last chance race at Daytona he didn't make the playoffs. No chance for #8.
He did run well all nite but got caught up in the usual plate race crashes. He gave it the old college try though.

I suspect you'll see him desert racing and sports car endurance racing during his retirement.
He also still has a chance to win another race before the season is out. Not that he has anything left to prove in NASCAR.
I've been a fan of Johnson since his first year in Nascar, I was happy he tied the championship record, but not particularly disappointed he didn't break it.

This 100%... even though I don't watch or care for football. Forgot there was even a Jimmy Johnson in NASCAR... I don't follow it at all.
Very clean Daytona race last night until the very end, where (as somewhat normal) the wrecks started happening. Little rookie dude that started wreck number 1 is lucky Ryan Newman wasn’t able to find him, or he likely would have had his neck wrung. Great line by Newman ... “.. he suddenly ran out of talent”.
I was beginning to think "is this really going to finish without a wreck" How could I be so stupid ?
He was a class act in all the post race interviews, and congratulating the winner, etc.
True Champion.

I would love to see Jimmie Johnson in an Indy Car next year, but where will he find a ride? Obviously Jimmie is a talented driver, but how many team owners can afford to be patient with his learning curve when it's cheaper and more effective to go find the next Rinus VeeKay or Pato O'Ward. I suppose if Jimmie brings some sponsorship money he could slide into TK's seat at Foyt, but why would he want to go from a contending team in NASCAR to a second-tier team in IndyCar?
I'd be surprised if he found a ride when talent like James Hinchcliffe is doing TV broadcasting because he doesn't have a full time ride...

Jimmy has a long, legendary career in motorsports. Long-term relationships with lots of sponsors. I'm sure he can bring more money to the table than Hinch can. And I say that as a big fan of Hinch.

Jimmy will bring sponsorship dollars with him. Based on the Indy car and F1 tests he's done I don't think that's going to take all that long for him to run towards the front but even if it does people will be watching so the sponsors will get a good ROI.
