If any of you were viewers of the Mecum auctions on TV, you were familiar with John Kraman, aka "The Professor". He was a walking encyclopedia of classic cars. He was actually an employee of Mecum, helping grow the company tremendously. I received word that he passed away last night after a short battle with Leukemia. Think of a random and little know car fact in his honor.
Very sad news. John was always good to us–a friendly chat, a quote for an article, a peek behind the scenes, a waive from the stage, an engaging conversation during dinner.
I was introduced to him several years back and was surprised by how much time he spent with us during that initial meeting. Like, he was happy to talk all day–and not just about cars as he was also into guitars and more.
He’ll be missed.

A good guy, and a major loss to Mecum and the automotive world. Had dinner with him last summer, and looked forward to seeing him later this week. Like David said, he was always available when we needed a quote, and he was great at it. He indeed could talk on many topics, including aviation, which was near and dear to his heart. RIP.
Here’s John Kraman’s obituary.
Thank you for everything, sir.
