Did you see all the locos they have listed now that are missing their prime mover? It would be perfect for this!
These B&A BL2 for $82.5k seem like the bargain on the site to me though.
Also I'm totally in on a group-buy for a loco at or around Challenge-price per person!

Can you sleep in your car ?
Thats what I always did on the ferry from Belgium to Dover !
And no it was not officially allowed , but it was a 5-6 hours trip and my van was more comfortable than the chairs upstairs :0
No. You stage your car in the loading lot. Attendants load it and unload it. You'll have no access to the car in between loading and unloading.
There was some initial concerns about ground clearance with the MINIs (bear in mind - this was back in 2007 and the cars were still relatively new), but it wasn't an issue - but really narrow or lowered cars might. There were four of us who did the trip from VA to FL.

Cabooses can be shipped by truck, so a lot of people buy them and put them in their backyards and make them little home offices or at-home camps. There's also a caboose motel, with something like 38 cabooses, in PA.
That caboose motel is somewhere out near Lancaster, PA. Mrs. DX looked at it for a getaway not too long ago.

It is right near the Strasburg Railroad. Its in Strasburg. Or Paradise. Or Leaman Place. Or Rinks. I can't remember exactly, all those places kind of merge together. I wanted to stay there when I went down to operate one of Strasburg's steam locomotives but for whatever reason, they were only allowing 2 night stays that weekend

Yeah, I recently learned about the caboose motel and the area around it. There's a couple of museums and model railroad attractions right there too. I want to go visit but right now the museums are closed due to COVID, so it'll have to wait a bit.
Can you stay at the Caboose Motel and take the train cross country to the Airstream Motel in Ojai ?

I thought that a train ride might be a fun thing to do one time, thought it would be cheap too.
Turns out, it's not cheap even if you factor in you are sleeping on the train

Grated it's been a few years, but when I looked into riding it cross-country at that time it wasn't bad at all.
It's not super cheap, but there's some times that are better than others, and it's not like flying is super cheap either. Sometime in the next few years I want to take the train out to California, enjoy the sights, and buy some rust-free car that failed smog and drive it back here to the emissions-free county of PA that I live in.
I was kinda looking at it as an adventure, see some interesting sights etc
It was like the border of Canada and America and I can't remember the stops but it was 3 days travel, 3 days stopped, 3 days home.
$5400 a person when I looked, which was years ago. I can go to Australia and stay for a month for about 2/3rds of that and take the wife too
