found an ad for a tractor trailer driver for a company that maintains and transports vintage race cars. Called the guy up and had a positive sounding talk with him. Got my fingers crossed... :D

update..just got called for a face to face with the owner tomorrow night.

However , now I've been checking the calender for the vintage racing series and it seems it might create a conflict with the 2009 Challenge weekend. It also looks like I might miss Carlisle too.

dude, you rock. 53 years old and retired from UPS with a UPS pension? awesome.

Now you get to drive around old cars to races?

We have a customer who runs a high-end transport company. He stopped in to see us one day and let us peek in the trailer. A 959 and an Osca were on the top deck. Seems like a good way to work the big trucks - this sort of customer would be more worried about quality and safety than speed, I'd think.

That's what I'm hoping..one thing we were known for at my old job was being safe and accident free. And we were usually the slower driving trucks on the highway. Now I'm wondering, what should I ask for pay wise in a scenario where I get to go infield at the tracks, and move around vintage race cars? The only draw back is I'd be away from home for about a week at a time. My wife is giving me flak about probably doing it for "free" in her words. I'm thinking $6 - 700 a week should be good, as long as they foot the hotel bill. Anybody have any idea what something like this pays? Am I thinking too low or not enough? You have to remember,I've been out of the employment hunting loop for a long time, don't have any idea about job applications anymore and didn't really want to know about them.

Not a truck driver, but when you have to be on the road a while, living in the truck or sleeping in the Taj Mahal Truck Stop, I would think something like 1K per week would be more like it.

It's not the being on the road part that chews up the week, it's getting to the track early, setting up the awnings, and unloading the cars. Then it's watch the racing, help out whenever needed, and stay in the hotel nearby. And on the last day, the reverse of the above.

Hell, I used to do that for free, guess I should shut up.

I'm thinking at least $0.40/mile and $15/hour for all the setup. Or a set $400-500 for a "race weekend" plus mileage to and from. And paid hotel, unless you're sleepin in the truck.

I was going to ask if you got a job as a porn star, but that's pretty good too

You know you have to post lots of pics now though

So I take it the interview went well then - good for you! Give me a heads up if/when you are at Watkins Glen and I'll be sure to stop by, it's only an hour away from me.

You'll need to log in to post.
