Just got back from seeing Rush. My wife scored a couple of preview tickets to see it in Birmingham, she is so awesome.
Needless to say, you must all see it. As a movie it's good, not great. We all know the story and they de-emphasise the true friendship between the two and turn it into more of a personal rivalry, but that's fine for a movie, it's not a documentary. Hemsworth is good as Hunt, but Bruhl is amazing as Lauda, by far the more believable of the two. The only thing I didn't like was Hunt beating up a reporter, that isn't something he would have done. The actor who played Clay Regazzoni was awesome too.
But let's face it, the real stars are the cars and the action. Here the movie is completely awesome. This has to be oscar material for sets, costumes, editing etc. The on track action is simply amazing, I defy anyone to find fault anywhere with the cars, tracks, pits, people etc.
More tomorrow, just had to brag.
See it.
Jealous!
And it looks like now they've pushed the release date back to the 27th.
I r a sad panda.
We're going to see it on the 28th with the Lotus Club in Denver. I think one of the folks there supplied and drove the hero car. Dinner and a movie setup, we'll get to hear some inside stories.
As for Hunt punching a reporter, well, he did get in the odd altercation.
Glad to hear there aren't any OMFG technical moments, like Stallone picking up quarters with his tires in Driven.

Please!!! DON'T get me started on DRIVEN.. Or Drivel As I like to call it....
Some friends and I saw it in the Movie House.. We went for beers afterward.. 4 pitchers of draft later we were still picking apart what was wrong with that piece of cinematic garbage...
Then the wings and pizza came... We shut up for 20 minutes... Then continued on for another hour. About this crap can of a movie!!

are your ears bleeding from his horribly screechy voice?
I don't know whether Hunt ever punched a reporter, but he knocked a race marshall on his ass once. Came to his senses right away, picked the guy up, apologised, all that stuff.
I read somewhere that he travelled on airplanes in a speedo, with his cigs and passport, and nothing else.
More James Hunt:

This, he was so amped up after going out of the race the poor marshall put his hand on his shoulder from behind. Hunt reacted without thinking and punched him. He imidiately realized what he'd done and was very very apologetic.
Technically it was brilliant, not 15 speed gearboxes etc.
While I want to see it, I think I have grown accustomed to watching things in the living room in my underwear with a cold Summer Shandy...
Maybe I can sneak in the beer, and it wont be the first time I was pantsless in a theater.

First off fair on the summer shandy
Second, you need to see this on the big screen. Seeing the close up of the cars as they start in slo-mo and watch the power ripple through them is amazing.
Third, I've been carrying beers into movies for years. Many around here actual sell beer, but the stuff from home is always better.
In reply to John Brown:
Is your real name Paul Reuben?
So whens are we all going? Emagine in Novi has Sam Adams on tap.
(I'm not sitting next to John though...)
I'm in for a general release showing with you plebs even though I've seen it once.
e-magine is where I ususal catch movies with Tom as it's central. Beer first and during?

Ade, I hate you.
Yes, I'm certainly in for a group viewing at Emagine.
Seen them twice. Always one of the best big shows. I prefer seeing smaller bands or bands that have the "local band attitude."
The last really good show was Papa Roach. They had the energy to get the crowd involved. Favorite band to see live is Story of the Year. I'm sure the shows are better being in their home town, but they are always a good show.

Also in for beers and movie.... as long as I have that day off. If we don't hit a late showing, I'd even be willing for some Kart2Kart after.
I plan to watch this car movie from inside my car...sadly, there is a no beer statute in my car.

....and then I bought the DVD in the markdown bin at walmart for $5. I have impeccable taste in film.

I have it too. My friend Rick Bye (of Porsche Rothman's Cup fame) did the driving in the movie. You should hear him talk about filming it, they were lucky the cars stayed in one piece.
