A few years ago we rescued a 1 year old cat. The very next day we rescued a year old Akita. We were afraid that the cat would become a snack for the dog, but they ended up being best buddies. The cat would hide behind furniture in the house or a bush in the yard and pounce on the dog’s face as she walked by. Then the chase would start. I got lucky and snapped an action shot from the hammock and I’ve been wanting to scan it for years now. I just got around to it and since lots of you have posted pics of your pets, I figured I’d bore you with the pic.

In the end, the dog would end up with the cat in her mouth every time. You'd only see back feet sticking out of one side of her head, and front feet and a head sticking out of the other. It always surprised me the amount of control that huge, powerful dog could exercise and not hurt that cat.

Looks like the cat's taking the chase pretty seriously

That is a GREAT picture. I'm laughing my ass off at the expression on the cat.

This is a true story - a little long but you may find it interesting.

I used to live in a rural area and I got two German Shepherds to "keep and eye on things". I later adopted two kittens to serve as shop cats to keep the rats and mice out of the shop. The Shepherds had been killing stray cats so when I brought the kittens home I called the dogs for an introduction. When they saw me holding the kittens they charged in to take them from me. I yelled "no" and told them to sit. They did, although the female kept snapping her teeth together, whimpering, and looking at me pleading for the kittens. I talked to them until they settled down telling them that they couldn't have the kittens, that they belonged here. They listened intently and I slowly had them come in to smell them, then stood back up and told them to take care of them.

I then put them down and watched while the dogs cautiously approached them to continue to sniff and inspect them.

Right away, each dog chose a favorite and they continually played with them. One day my ex and I walked out of the house to find the dogs on their backs holding slobber soaked kittens in their mouths. We watched in awe as they would gently put them down and the kittens would return and climb all over them always ending back in their mouths.

I am still amazed!

My dog and cat didn't get along for some time. Now every time my cat makes me kiss his head, it already has dog slobber all over it.

Latest of those two. A selfie. Every Witch has a Bombey.

That is a phenomenal picture... I can almost hear the Scooby Doo bongo-soundtrack-of-running-away...

And both critters are in great poses, and very photogenic!

we lost this one earlier this year unexpectedly.

still have this guy around and since losing our other one, he gets a lot of attention from us. losing a pet makes you realize that you can take them for granted I guess.

Thanks for the compliments guys. It was a lucky shot. They did that chase thing all the time and I was laying on the hammock when I heard them ripping through the leaves in the back yard. I pointed to where I knew they'd be and pushed the shutter at what I hoped was the right time. I was pretty happy about how it turned out. That cat looks TERRIFIED!! The cat was heading for the porch to get under it, but didn't make it.
Sadly neither animal is with us anymore. We miss the dog a lot, I can't remember the cat's name.

What a great picture. I love it when cats get all dramatic and make that face. Mine get a wild bug seemingly for no reason, galloping up and down the stair bellowing "Nooooo, nooooo, noooooo!".

That happens around our house a lot. I refer to it as "The Game". At our place the cat wins about 90% of the time, in no small part because she is the one who made up the rules.

As near as I can tell, the rules of The Game are:
1. The Cat scores a point when she is able to pounce on the Dog by surprise and then get away.
2. The Cat scores a point when she is able to tag, whap, or otherwise "get" the Dog by surprise from a position where the dog is unable to get her back.
3. The Dog scores a point when she is able to "get" the Cat before she is able to escape.
4. If the Cat is able to get to a higher perch than the Dog, she is "away" and safe.
5. If the Cat is able to get enough lead on the Dog where she is able to start grooming herself before the Dog can catch her, she is "away".
6. If the Cat starts to sneak up or pounce on the dog and is noticed, the Cat can prevent the dog from gaining any points by acting as though she was not about to sneak or pounce.
7. The Cat scores an extra point if she is able to get away and gain a vantage point where she can gloatingly watch the Dog wander around trying to figure out where the Cat disappeared to.

And they totally love each other, too.

Yeah, we had to put Cody (the pooch) down a few years ago. I've narrowly avoided getting another dog, but I'm going to a rescue site right after I hit Add Post.

Well since we're posting... Both of these are rescues. The white one is getting old, and the other one is just over a year old now (the last pic is her swimming in a drainage ditch, which she seems to love).

That was him in 2011 at the LeMans Race at Road America. He couldn't seem to figure out what all the fast cars were going into turn 1.

Here's him this past year smiling for the camera.
