As a kid, going to the friend's house in Georgia or to Adventure Landing were among my most anticipated trips. What did they have in common? Go karts.

As I have "grown up," so have the karts. Electric indoor karts with instant torque, and outdoor gasser models capable of 60+ mph. The outdoor place in town has three 10 minute sessions for just shy of $60. $120/hour for seat time, without having to provide gear or maintain the kart? Compared to any other racing, that seems like a steal.

Is anyone else into these arrive and drive karts? Can someone significantly improve his or her skillset without a consistent vehicle?

I raced Briggs "stock" heavy alcohol road course for a few years at the (former) semi-local bullring. Amazing fun! I bought a fairly current chassis, went through it, and had the local guy build me a motor. I think with pit gear I was in under $2.5k. A Saturday race was about $30, tires would last 3 or 4 days, Methanol was about $5/gallon. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if there was a track within an hour and a half.
