Except that it's not racing.

Most racing series use points to decide an overall victor. Either way, its still a motorsport.
No, it is not racing. That's not the point. It's still fun. It is certainly possible to have subjective competitions. The challenge has a concourse every year. Food and beverage competitions are great. Unlimited class aerobatic competitions are INCREDIBLE.
That said, I disagree with their assertion about it being the most fun or biggest rush in a car. Having done drifting (granted, I'm not that level of drifter), wheel to wheel racing is a way bigger rush for me. Tandem drifting has nothing on sliding through a series of turns door-to-door with another car when you're both driving to the absolute limit trying to gain an advantage on the other.

+a billion
Drifting is fun, but it bores me after a while. It can't come close to the rush of "real" racing ......at least for me.
I just wish I could actually do it. LOL I never feel completely comfortable drifting. Guess I don't really have a beater that I don't care if I smack the back bumper on something and can practice... I throttle steer the hell out of my 5.4 P71, but I don't think that nearly qualifies as "drifting". LOL

No, that was totally the point. I don't have a problem with drifting (other than I think it's stupid ) but don't call it racing when clearly it isn't.

That too.

Wait... what..? Were they actually calling it racing? I didn't bother to watch a full half hour video. I have other things to do.
I like the idea of drifting, but the drifting crowd makes a circle track audience look like the brunch crowd at the country club. I have never seen more littering outside of the third world in my life. It's a fad, and I hope that after the posers and d-bags leave there will still be enthusiasts in it.
I never get out. I have no life. I have no friends. I never watched any other type of motorsport. So yeah, you all are right
I love "real" racing and it gets my blood pumping as much as drifting does but there are too many rules nowadays in "real" racing. 90's BTCC? hell yeah, that E36 M3 was real. today's racing? mostly boring and too rule/penalty happy. That's what's nice about drifting, it always was fun and always will be fun, not a berkeleying rule fest or he ran into me and he wrecked into me it's just get out and slide your damn car! and my comment on "the most grassroots", I was saying that even compared to GRM events and LeMons and so on, it's still very grassroots
and I like how you guys watched the video, why just come in and bitch. If you don't like it then don't comment
In reply to NickF40:
As far as most grassroots, you have never been to a dirt track have you?
But still I like drifting. I don't think I would ever do it but it takes all types.
yes.....I have.....a good many times
Shadow, you obviously been to a bad event because all the ones I been too were NOTHING like that. There are very much enthusiasts doing events

You're probably right, my experience is highly anecdotal, literally a one-off that left me with a really bad impression. Is there a sanctioning body I should look for? I'm in central Ohio if that helps.
I saw video while I was in Germany of a drifting event there (at Hockenheimring?) that looked really cool, but I never got over to one.
yeah the German events are awesome, i'd love to go to one
your best bet is Club Loose, they host a lot of east coast events (in the video there are examples) They go to Englishtown in Nj a good bit. I know Formula D comes to Wall Speedway, Nj which isn't too far from ohio.

Ouch, 500 miles is probably more commitment then I've got to expanding my horizons.
The German event I saw was televised on German TV. I never learned to speak enough German to follow the broadcast, but it seemed like a big deal.
hahaha yeah the trend of beards and hippie look is still strong, but hey, I gaurantee you that it surprised you when you saw his BMW ha
Shadow, honestly there are events probably closer that i'm unaware of. I know Club Loose is going to more places year after year. And yeah, the germans are crazy about it, drifting's huge worldwide
I don't get drifting. I just can't see past the instant tire expense. If I could relate, I might see thing differently. In fact, it is kinda painful (to me).
I've been to a drift event and left in rather short order. Didn't fit with the "culture". That said, I do enjoy sliding a car around when I'm bored.
I could/can/do get behind drifting as a spontaneous thing that came out of some guys hanging out, but as "sport" it doesn't work for me.
To each his own and all though.

Yeah, I mean that German event was televised, it was at an F1 track (I'm pretty sure... it's been a few years), there were lots of people in the stands, and it seemed like a really professional, well-produced thing. Also, these guys were not crashing anything, this seemed very precise.
