I found it. Hyundai Accent
I know the OE-spec ones were available aftermarket a couple years ago when I bought my Accent. I nearly bought one, IIRC they were under $100, and the stock shifter is about as vague as it gets. I'm used to it now though, so it doesn't bother me.
specifically the Hyundai Accent SE and I believe also the Kia Rio SX models.
Yes when they switched over to the newest gen accent, the 3rd gen accent accessories were literally being liquidated. I got a full set of oem black carpet floormats for $5. aluminum door sill plates for $7. Shift knob for $5. Aluminum oil cap for $5. I bought the DC sports strut brace while the price was still dropping. I paid $112 which I thought was great but after a few more months I think it had dropped to below $50. Aem intakes and B&M shifters sold for cheap too.
another alternative to firm up the shift feel is replace the rubber shifter bushings with delrin or aluminum bushings.

Shifter base bushings as well. Changing the shifter cable (at the trans) to Delrin, and the base bushings to aluminum made the old Elantra SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. Instead of a semi-stiff stick in a bowl of spaghetti, it was actually a shifter with real gates and stuff.
Luckily, the Forte 6-spd feels good stock.
