At no point in my life have I ever been bored enough to want to chase a ball of any kind. Figured that's what Labradors were for. Besides, if an adult wanted me to do it, I knew it was not in my best interest.

Surfing, Skiing, biking and running from the cops was good enough to keep me in shape.

Has nobody else noticed that the result of " Physical Education" in NA is that the majority of people give up as soon as it is not forced on them? What was that definitoin of insanity again?

Well, what most people describe as sports are really just games. So there's that.

He's getting into golf lately, and still loves the soccer. Being small and hanging in should pay dividends once he catches up. Hopefully he will stick with it.

I graduated HS 6'-1" and probably 165. Now 6'-5" 215

I finished high school at 6'2", 145lbs. I probably started my Junior year around 5'7", 110lbs. Awkward and gangly as berkeley. Still am, if I'm honest.

I never played ball sports, didn't have any interest in them. I did try track my senior year, but by that time all the other kids has been doing it for ages and it was really just an exercise in futility (and a good way to get into the track girls pants, but I digress).

I didn't have any facial hair until 19 or 20, except for some really patchy sideburns. Ten years on, all the guys that had beards in high school are bald or balding. It sucked then, but I find it preferable to the alternative now.

I'm about 165lbs now, can grow a decent beard, and have a nice full head of hair.

Remind your kid that life goes on after HS and good things come to those who wait, even if it isn't your choice. You can't always see the forest through the trees, etc.

His Mileage May Vary.

Great perspective in this thread, even if Chrome won't allow me to quote anybody right now.

Screen just says:

Broke.

Let's see--I was 5'9/140 at 16. Graduated college at 5'11"/165. Had a gym hound phase where I packed on 20 lbs of muscle between 24 and 26. So yeah, it took me awhile.

I ALWAYS sucked at team sports. I was into BMX, skateboarding and mountainbiking from grade school into my 20's. Guitar helped get me laid, as did a funny personality.

At 43, I'm a very fit cyclist who does road, cyclocross and some mountain. Weight goes from 178-188 depending on time of year. I still suck at anything that involves a ball--including golf, which I love.

Kids will find what they're good at. It doesn't always have to involve a team sport. I know middle America worships its football players, but there's all sorts of stuff that one can be passionate about and good at.

You can't see the future anyway - I went into 9th grade 5'6/114# running 10 minute miles, was 146# and running 6:30s 3 months later, kept adding lung capacity and bulk for another year all the way up to 175# and a lifetime PR of 4:42. Then my body suddenly switched on me, from being the guy who should've carried a road map on training runs to being someone who could see the finish from the start of his best race. It took till senior year to figure this out. It's frustrating being "slower" and "worse athetically" from what you were before. Different sports and different positions on the field take different people, and even among Ultimate Frisbee cutters there's room for 5'8"/145#, 5'8"/185#, 6'2"/150#, 6'2"/280#.

The more testosterone you use, the faster you go bald, so he might avoid wearing a hat when he's thirty.
