I am not bored. Quite the opposite. I am sort of overstimulated and overtaxed. Dance used to provide emotional release. It doesn't do that anymore. The weight of organizing adds to the stress so much that the dancing part of it does not relieve stress anymore. Imagine organizing auto-x, and only being able to pull your head out of "organizer" mode for 1/4 of the length of a run.

Other things still bring me joy. Skating does that, and I am looking forward to starting gaming again. I even get really excited about some of the creative projects and collaborations I'm able to do at work. Work is a source of stress, but it pays money and provides a greater sense of satisfaction and pride.

I am drafting a letter to the four people who are most closely involved in dance stuff with me and letting them know about my plans. I'm telling them I'll organize the dances in May, but will back out for at least June and July.

I'm going on vacation at the end of June, and I really hope that will help me get refreshed again.

I just reminded myself the night that I woke up in the middle of the night in a panic over agreeing to be the convention chair.

I should have stopped that night. May be still autocrossing had I did.

I tried autocross solo-chair for a time last year. It wasn't for me and I had to back out, other people have been forced to step up and organize but my mental health was more important.

I'll agree it's time to move on.

Any time it's a chore to make the next event, it's time to move on. That is doubly true when you are the person that has to actually make the next event happen. BTDT.

It's time to pass the buck to the next crew and move on to what you are dreaming about.

That sounds like the best plan. I know in my autocross region, they are constantly looking for guys and gals to groom into being the next organizers so everything doesn't fall apart if someone needs to back away for a year or more. Sounds like you need to do the same.

Personally, I ebb and flow with my hobbies. After breaking up with my g/f in 2013, I was burnt out on cars, so I went back to bicycles. Also in 2013 I got the DH racing bug again, so I'm back to doing that. At my age, I have no concerns about really trying to win, but just have fun. I still have my cars, and drive with them once in awhile (and obviously being on this site all the time helps keeps that ember glowing). Guitars and music are similar. I still have quite a number of guitars, but I don't play/practice as much as I should. Fortunately, I am in a situation where I don't need to sell off one hobby to pay for another (although I regrettably have in the past).
