Hello everyone. Does everyone remember this thread? https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/replace-a-laptop-with-a-tablet-is-it-possible-yet/73517/page3/

Great.

Here we are again, replacing another Dell Lowlineron, but with a few twists from last time. Tunawife has a laptop that we got her and is pretty nice. We still have the Asus transformer that I bought from that thread. Nobody cares about me anyway, so it's all about the kids. Cheap is good, because they will drop it, yank on it, etc. Obviously a lot more stuff lately has been videoconferencing of sorts, but since my kids are homeschooled, that is going to increase anyway for specific classes. Assume Zoom/webex/youtube as well as this place: https://www.pottersschool.org/h?id=711324#Requirements

Battery life, touchscreen, and a stylus. Price is important because we might get two.

My brain says a tablet, but a big one. The kids love the idea. Tunawife isn't sure. I use a Surface at work, so I'm happy with the tablet idea with the detachable keyboard.

Ideas?

If it were me I would go with Chromebooks, they just work, no needing to keep up with OS updates and such.  Get one with at least 8GB of RAM and you should be good to go.

Our school systems uses Chromebooks. One for every kid from 3rd grade to 12th. They work exceptionally well for their price range.

just check that whatever programs you need to use will work on chromebooks ,

check  Zoom/webex  if they will work , youtube is google so no problems there ,

But it sounds like  a good pick

My 9-year old has 2 Chromebooks, one we bought and one the school provided. (Thanks for the heads up on that one). I hate that I don't know the OS, but that's just me. He logs onto all the stuff he needs and its ruggedized and waterproof.  His will fold to a tablet orientation and has a touchscreen, but he honestly never uses it that way. In the car, it sits on his lap like a regular laptop becuase he needs WASD keys for Roblox.
