If I understand correctly, the last shuttle flight takes off this friday? (I am often wrong, and may be wrong this time, too.) But if it is, for once I am within driving distance of the takeoff site and would appreciate anyone's advice on a good place (other than sitting in front of a tv set in an A/Cd room) for viewing this event.

I think Endevour flies this month and Atlantis goes up in June, but I'm not sure either. Alas, the aforementioned TV will be as close as I get.

Reports claim Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been cleared to attend the launch. She gets to watch her husband pilot the Endeavour on its' final mission.

There's much to commemorate with this event.

So THAT'S why the network news hasn't mentioned this friday's flight, except to say that Ms. Giffords will be especially interested....there's at least one more flight before the "final" flight.

If folks can still help me get a good look at friday's launch, I'd appreciate it and consider it a "dry run" for the June launch (assuming I can make that one, too).

There is a State Park across the bay from the launch site that is a great spot to watch from. Go early, bring camping gear. I was there for the first shuttle launch and it was like Mardi Gras. The scene at the park was almost as entertainig as the launch.

We need a GRM shuttle launch watch.

...or a Robin.

I'm sure GRM could make it work. The Challenge has a bigger budget than the Russians. How hard can it be?

No, right coast (figuratively and literally). GRM World HQ is up by Daytona, Space Shuttle is down by Cocoa Beach. Both are on the Atlantic coast and connected by I-95 and US-1.

Considering I've walked to the Atlantic Ocean from GRM World HQ, and I am a very fat man, I highly doubt it was the West Coast of Florida

Wee bit of trivia:

(supposedly) there is no section of the state of Florida that is wider that 195 miles. In other words, if you are on the east coast of Florida, you are noo more than 3 and 1/2 by car from the west coast of Florida.

Yeah, you can see the launches from our office, although walking two blocks down to the Intracoastal provides a much better view. We'll be at The Mitty this Friday, though, so no launches for us.
