I read that at the time of the last survey (2003) when Norwegian Cruise Lines was considering retrofitting the ship for cruise use that they found the hull to be in very good condition. Then again that was 22 years ago. Yikes!
I'll never forget seeing her for the first time on a rainy night pulling into Baltimore when I was a cadet on a US Lines container ship. She looked fast sitting still, just breathtaking. If I'm remembering correctly we were tied up just across from her She looked a little better then but again that was 42 years ago and she had only been out of service for 14 years at the time. Double yikes!
It's only now I realize her smokestacks are out of scale with the ship's size. Everyone talks about her top speed but I bet the rate of acceleration was amazing for what is essentially a floating building. What a shame.
