A mower with a Honda motor is as reliable as an electric IMHO.

I had a small lawn up until last year. The problem with a reel mower is that it is only effective cutting grass up to a certain height. I tried using one for a year. I got sick of having to cut the lawn with a weed wacker because it had rained for a solid week and grass didn't get cut etc. Bought a used corded electric for $20 and never looked back. Cords aren't a big deal either despite what some might say. It was great not having to worry about gas, oil, batteries or whether would it start. Just plug and go like a vacuum cleaner.
My dad had a couple of 60's corded electric mowers that we used for trim work when I was a kid. They were fantastic. Lighter even than a string trimmer, and they never needed anything for maintenance.

Reel does not pick up or shred leaves.
Mine doesn't shred leaves, but it mowes them. I don't pick up and bag leaves. If God didnt make an animal that rakes and bags the forests, I dont need to do it. I mulch them and let the turn into nutrients.
I love my Honda-powered Craftsman, too. We have had it a dozen years or so. Each spring I (sometimes) change the oil and blade. It always starts on the first pull.
Sounds like my friend is getting a Honda--a hand-me-down from a friend.
Thanks for the help. It's much appreciated. My friend says thanks, too.
