Lil Stampie has a birthday coming up and he's really wanting an Airsoft gun.  He's wanting a 1911 style.  We looked at some but I was looking the electrics for what seemed like higher capacity and lower operating cost. He was liking a green air because well he's 10 and the slide was chrome. So teach me. Am I right in that he'll be better off with an electric and let him channel his inner Stampie to customize it?

It’s been years since I was into airsoft, but back in the day the hot ticket was a $100 electric AK-47 lookalike with a metal gearbox. They ran circles around every other gun we played with.

For Christmas, I got an airsoft 1911.  It was $8 at Tractor Supply.  All plastic, and it has some issues shooting through a piece of printer paper.  It is fun, though.  If there was an electric 1911 that was all metal and functioned like a real one, I'd be interested in that.  I would prefer a 1911A1 model with the curved main spring housing, but I'd accept a 1911 with the flat main spring housing.

All I can say is that grabbing your dad's ray bans for eye protection is not a good idea. I can still see but not sure it was worth it.

please be careful with these things. Young people shouldn't be running around the neighborhood with them.

Recently a kid (who might have been burglarizing a truck in a back alley) in Phoenix was shot and killed by cops while carrying a airsoft gun with a orange tip. Hard for LEO to see the orange tip when you're running away.

Not any gore to report. The glasses did not survive though. 14 year old me was quite astonished that sunglasses could cost so much.

They are like a BB gun.  You can shoot people's eyes out.  The little 6mm plastic bb's will bounce back if something is hit just right, just like a 4.5mm steel BB.  Everyone around the shooting should wear proper shooting grade eye protection.

The Green Gas semi-auto ones are really cool and good for practice instead of a real gun if  you are into the gun games like USPSA and you need to draw and fire one shot 100 times (or more) per day and do magazine change practice to stay tuned up.   (USPSA is like autocross for pistol shooters but cheaper)

If its just for hosing BB's the electric machine gun types are the way to go.

Sorry for the delayed response. I posted right before bed and for some reason my employer expected me to work today and not hang out on Grassroots.  Thanks for the input. This would be used at a facility just for airsoft guns and with safety gear.

We built a machine gun using steel brake line, compressed air and a plastic pop bottle.  You can disperse a hell of a big jar of airsoft pellets in no time at all with one of those.

Having said that, I have nothing productive to add to the conversation.
