My Mom is 73 years old. Until COVID she's been going to the library every time she needs to access the internet. She refuses to pay for a smart phone.

She recently found out wifi is included in her rent. I'd like to spend $200 or so to get her a chromebook type device.

Any thoughts? I'm looking at Lenovo, as I have an older laptop from them that's been a reliable tank.

She doesn't need the latest & greatest. Just something to access the internet/send emails, etc.

Thanks!

Is mom computer savvy?

A few years back we had to make a decision on a new device for my MIL. At that time we went with an Apple iPad. I'm glad we did. She is now 89 yrs old and on her second iPad. Over those years, generally everything has remained the same with now big learning curve (once she learned apple.)

If staying Chrome book, I like the Lenovo one my wife, the teacher, has brought home from school. It seems tough.

Personally, I have used a Win10 Lenovo for the past 4 years and just last week bought myself another (better, newer) Win 10 Lenovo without even shopping other brands.

You're the best, man. While "intuitive," there might be a learning curve for her to figure out an ipad. She already knows how to use a PC.

I'd help, but I'm 500 miles away :/

Somethin like this?

I've got maybe a 5 year old ASUS. I've been nothing but happy with it. <$200 new.

I have no idea what model, but it's likely changed anyway.

My sister got these for her kids for remote learning.  These are the 3rd or 4th Asus Chromebooks in our family and everyone seems happy with them and they hold up well:

Asus c202

I recommended she try these because they're spill resistant and have an Intel Celeron processor and 4gb of RAM.  Seems to work well for the kids and it's only $180.

Oh, and if she's already familiar with a PC, grab a Bluetooth mouse, that'll make the transition easier.

Chrome OS has a logitech "driver" for any of the logitech wireless goodies with the little asterisk logo on the dongle. Not sure what it does exactly...

I had a Samsung 1st gen and liked it. Now I have an Acer I bought 3yrs ago. I gave the Samsung away to a friend and it's still poking along. It's hard to go wrong with Lenovo, Asus or Acer. My Acer has an aluminum body, which was a selling point for me.

Ordering the Asus.

Calling her apartment complex in the morning to see if all necessary hardware is there or if she needs to provide her own router/cables/etc.

Found these at Best Buy. Was looking for something for my son's virtual classes.
