Disagree, that will depend on the individual dog. My friend got one ("Lab-Pit"), his 4th dog. Good dog, but aggressive. You can't play with it the same as you could a lab, you always have to be on alert. If they have kids before he dies, they'll have to get rid of him.
Here is a dog I had considered. African Basenji
Low shedding. Barkless and known for being odor free.
Athletic, 20lb dog.
Though they do not bark, this does not mean they are noise-free.

Haha! What's next? A thread about having kids and a clean, tidy house?
Some of these terriers look like Ewoks. I like Ewoks. I just need to make sure they don't flatten my jetbike with a log.
We've found a combination of tile floors, laminate, a Roomba and frequent vacuuming of couches keeps the hair down. Now, do we still collect enough hair to make a new dog every week, absolutely. We have a purebred mutt, husky/lab/shepherd/other cross.

I have this and a couple of oreck vacuum cleaners. It's not bad if we brush her and run the vacuum a few times a week. I like the temperament of guardians more than terriers.

Oldtin, what kind of dog is that? Pyrenees? Absolutely beautiful, looks like a real sweetie

I've always liked Corgis and think they're freaking adorable, but apparently they shed enough fur in a day to make coats for an entire Eskimo tribe.
LOL. We had 2 huskies, dont talk to me about shedding enough fur to make coats for eskimoes.
Anyway what floor types are you dealing with? Much carpet? So hardwood?
The areas we keep our (remaining) dog limited to 90% of the time are all hardwood. he will sleep on the couch when we are at work even though he is "not allowed" up there.
Absolutely have to vaccuum a few times a week if you want to keep it looking clean all week long. We usually give up on that and just vacuum every weekend or so. No matter what, right after vacuuming we will see another little tumblweed of hair on the ground that clearly had blown out from under something.
We recently got a vacuum, i think its a Eureka from walmart, that was marketed towards pet owners. It has a little brushlike apparatus that you stick on the hose attachment and spins off the suction of the vaccuum which makes it easy to go over the couches to get the hair off. it occasionally gets stuck/clogged but its very easy to pop open and clean out. Overall the vaccuum is easy to clean out and we are happy with it. I sure as E36 M3 wasnt going to pay several hundred dollars for a dyson when we got this one for like $130.

I have cats and dogs. The cats, by far, are the worst for shedding and they can't be brushed or washed without causing injury. Of the 3 dogs, the Bishon/E36 M3zu mix sheds least, but he's a shiny happy person. The Lab/Chow (small bear) only sheds when the seasons change and we skin him for the summer months so its not too bad. The yellow Lab is horrible, she should be bald with the amount of hair that falls off of her. I bathed her last night and the tub was fuzzy. We have a Dyson Animal and it does a fairly good job with hair removal on the area rug and the hard surfaces. Over the past 3 years we've stripped all of the carpet out (thanks cats) and replaced with laminate. We've basically given up having a clean house, but that may be more related to the 3 kids. Fun fact, I used to be highly allergic to cats but now they don't bother me. Living in dander has its benefits.

we have the robot vac, hardwood floors and a beagle, which when she moves she looks like Linus, you know in the old charlie brown comics with the cloud of dirt around him, except we get the cloud of hair......

Therw is no sich thing as having kids and a tidy house
Proper spelling of "Shih Tzu" should not trigger the language filter cleaner upper thingie!
That's funny, I spelled it all together as "shi-tzu" without the hypen. I did refer to him as a shiny happy person though.

Pigpen, not Linus. Linus has a blanket.
Half Pyrenees half american foxhound. Hopefully will avoid dysplasia due to being a mix. great dogs hair is just long enough to be able to clean it up
Both of our little monsters are half-Corgi, half-Min Pin. They're smart, good dogs. They both shed like mother-effers, especially the little one. Right now she's shedding in high gear, too.
What to do? Our house is mostly tile, so that helps with clean up. A FloorMate does wonders. Even a broom helps a lot.
This little thing helps remove a ton of hair, and we used it on her every day or so: http://www.kongcompany.com/products/for-dogs/grooming-and-recovery-collars/grooming-and-recovery-collars/zoomgroom/
I brushed her last night. Afterward, there was a little chipmunk left behind.

She's a Great Pyrenees (rescue). Truly a sweetheart. She's our third Great Pyr.
Everything in my house, except for the kitchen, is carpet. Guess I better look into a dog that doesn't shed.

Another thing I will point out, you can train small dogs to use a litter box. You don't have to worry about getting up in the middle of the night to take them out and it doesn't stink at all.

Like I said, dogs with a little longer hair are easier to clean up after as far as the shedding goes, just get a good vacuum I recommend the shark, its about 180-200 and better performing vs a dyson $600, bulky and useless around furniture

That aint no lab mix. In my experience hair from dogs with a little length is easier to clean up than short haired dogs.
He is a lab mix (nudge nudge, wink wink). My boss says the only way there is lab in that pitbull is if he ate one. Ha!
Anyway, if you are not a dog person, getting the wrong dog will make you hate dogs. If you get some trendy dog with inbred issues and large medical bills who craps in your slippers or digs up the yard...you will HATE dogs. If you get a shelter Pit Mix (or other mutt) it will be loyal, obedient, strong, healthy and you will LOVE dogs.

My wife wanted a foo foo dog, and I wanted a German Shepherd - I like bigger dogs.
Lucky for me, Blue, our Weimaraner/Chocolate Lab mix literally fell into our laps. Awesome dog, if a little crazy. He's fairly dumb, but is awesome with the kids. My son can do pretty much anything to him without even a growl, much less a snap. He sheds very little - we vacuum maybe twice a week, and have hardwood floors in half of the house. Dark furniture helps, but his fur doesn't stick to clothing.
He loves the Porsche, so that keeps him in good standing with me.
Can't say enough good things about not having carpet. A dry mop once or twice a week takes care of cat fur and for furniture we have covers that we can pull off and throw in the wash.
Weren't you looking at moving soon?
