It dawned on Mrs. Poop and I that we haven’t been on a vacation in YEARS.
I’ve also NEVER visited my brother who now lives in John’s Island just outside of Charleston.
While he’s lived there for almost 10 years, and has plenty of “local” knowledge, I know you guys & gals are a wealth of info as well.
We’re staying at “Tides” hotel on Folly Beach. The girls haven’t been to the beach in so long, neither of them remember it :( ...So we’ll likely spend *most* of our time on the sand, but would like to do other fun stuff with them as well. They’re 8 and 5.
Any “Do it/skip it” “kid activity” recommendations? They’re likely not going to be interested in all the cool historical/museum type stuff.
Thanks!
Plenty of breweries nearby in Charleston proper....
Good choice. I lived on folly while my house was being built in North Charleston many years ago. Will type more later.
But.
Berts store
lost dog cafe
go see surfing at the break.
Hard to have ave a hard time there.

Cool. Thanks. Obviously the convenience of the beach where we’ll be staying is awesome, but is there a less crowded beach you’d recommend? I’d like to try to squeeze in some fishing if possible.
My son's father in law regularly fishes at the Folly Pier and catches fish most of the time. Edit: The pier record is a 44+ pound King Mackerel. They have rod rentals and such if you don't have your own saltwater gear.
I actually installed the sliding door at the Tides a bunch of years ago. We still service it.
The Aquarium downtown is pretty cool, as are Forts Sumpter, and Moultrie. Patriots Point is worth a day if you like that kind of thing.

I can’t handle traffic-jam fishin, but I might be able to sneak out at 3AM and search for General Sherman. Otherwise the inlets on either side look promising.
Also, we’re kicking around the idea of renting a caravan vs. taking the mazda5...which quickly turned in to a conversation about trading in the mazda for a GC. Mrs. Poop is convinced this is 100% her idea, so, say a prayer for my horrible poker-face.
In reply to poopshovel again :
The pier was never that busy when I lived there. It’s also literally steps away from the hotel. Plenty of inshore and bay fishing opprtunities if you want to hire a boat/guide

Cool. If it’s dead, I’ll give it a shot. Otherwise, I’ll try to find somewhere to do some surf-fishin early/late.
I caught hell for doing the inshore guide thing last time we went to Edisto, but I also caught a 30+” red, sooooooo....
