For those who've been following, we've officially sold the "old house," and we're living at the "creekhouse" now.
We'll start building our "real house" once lumber costs drop(???)
It's 20 acres split between me & my bro. We keep the old farmhouse up front. My bro gets the "million dollar view" of the creek out back.
We're FINALLY officially dividing the property...just a "dead man policy" formality really.
BUT! I DO wanna really FARM the land.
In talking with my farmer friend this morning, she recommended Pecan trees, as they already flourish on the property.
I've heard lots of things from lots of people over the years, but she's HELL BENT on us getting a loan? Grant? For tractor, trees, irrigation, etc.
AS WELL AS looking into loans SPECIFICALLY for farmers.
Learn me? Teach me? Provide me with resources???
Can't help you with farm subsidies.
Your property is beautiful, and may be an excellent place for a pecan orchard. Really not sure why, but I have always wanted a pecan orchard...
Note: Pecan trees are a long term investment. They can live more than 100 years, but they aren't mature until they are 10 or 12 years old. Can you wait that long before they produce?
If you decide to go this route, let me know. I have a friend in South GA who is a pecan farmer, and I am sure he would be willing to give you advice.

BAD ASS! And yes, I'm aware of the time they take to fruit. Talk soon? Friend says plant them close...then sell 1/3 - 1/2 of the fruiting trees @ 7-10 years...which I thought was brilliant.
In reply to poopshovel again :
Sure. Call any time.
You can contact the local USDA Farm Servives Agency. They may be willing to help.
Call your county ag extension office. They should be able to get you pointed in the right direction.
