I'm ready to get a set of dedicated hose clamp pliers.

Is there a snapon/icon/mac tools version that I should look at, or is this set from Amazon just as good?

I don't even recall what brand I bought, I suspect it was not expensive.  It's been great.

As with most tools, the key question is "How often are you going to use it?"

If it's just once in a while, the one you linked is probably going to do very well.

If it's every day, then a pro-quality tool might be a better choice.

Verily, I am disappointed that this man's question got so little response.  This tool is life-changing if you're trying to remove or install the OEM-type spring clamps that seem to get stuffed into inaccessible locations.

Forsooth, OP is thy humble servant! A set has been purchased and a report shall be made on the morrow.

(I assume it's Rennfaire season where you are too?)

To answer the OP's question directly. I am very much a tool whore. I spend a lot of time on the tool forums over at the Garage Journal and I research a lot to decide what to buy. I determined that OTC makes a lot of the tool truck brand hose clamp pliers. The big guys simply re-brand them. So I bought OTC.

I have been completely happy with the purchase. I have all of their hose pinch pliers, flexible cable type clamp pliers, and hand held clamp pliers.

I have the snapon flexi cable set. I would find out who made them for them and buy them without the tool truck tax. I paid well over a hundo for them and they seem like they should go for $40. Still a crucial tool.

I learned this last week that I need a set that does small clamps. Non cable. I will buy Knipex for that set. I have yet to regret any Knipex purchase.

I have multiple hose clamp pliers, but my Gearwrench 3977 angled pliers have been a lifesaver at times.

Oh, I have no idea regarding Rennfaire season.  I always talk like this.  And I wish I had a tuppence for every time I have heard the King's English bastardized herein.

I have an older version of this set, purchased from the now-defunct Thetoolwarehouse.net vendor.   I don't know if it's pro-quality, but for the occasional DIYer it seems to be about perfect.   It'll take a while to actually figure out the application for all of the various tools in the set, but when you do you'll be like, "oh... wow... that was easy..." when you finally use the correct tool.

You'll need to log in to post.
