So once every year or so I buy some tunes on ITunes. I know most people don't like ITunes but I am no guru.
Problem
I buy the tune
I see the tune in my library
I see my device to the left IPOD TOUCH
But I cannot get the tunes to move from the library to the IPOD
I have left clicked and dragged, synced, transferred new purchases, export, add to playlist, add to device, and anything else I could think of. I am missing some little command that happens every time. Thanks in advance.
Run iTunes and connect your iPod to your computer. Once the iDevice appears on the left in iTunes, click on it.
Next, click “Music” on the left. If iTunes says “iCloud Music Library is On”, turn it off.
Back to iTunes, on the Sync page make sure that the box next to “Sync Music” is checked.
If all else fails make sure you have the latest apple software updates on both the ipod and the computer you are syncing from.
I am baffled that the same company that can make a iPhone operating system that is so easy to use that my 6 year old taught my 70+ year old mother in law how to use it, but they make iTunes & icloud so incredibly hard to navigate.
I won a ipod nano, and it can only be used with iTunes. but it is so FN hard to do anything that I never use the stupid thing. just trying to get some podcasts loaded was enough to make me want to toss it.

Quoted for truth, and we have a Mac, two iPads, two iPhones.
iTunes is very easy to use. Sign up for and pay for every service that Apple offers; iTunes, iCloud, Music Match, Genius, iTunes Radio, etc. Once you have spent enough money with them, they will allow your stuff to work. If you have any issues, make sure you are purchasing Apple-branded cables, cords and headphones too.

iTunes is designed around selling you things. For everything else it sucks.
