I am going on a trip to florida for a week, (flying) soon, and I need luggage... as I look around it confuses me. limited weights, sizes and super varying costs/reviews has me all messed up.
I was planning on getting them from Amazon, thanks to 2 day prime shipping.
any good info/recommendations?
thanks guys.
going to a hotel or family/friends? I had good luck with shipping clothes and stuff to family and getting it when I get there.. and vice versa. Generally cheaper than checking luggage
For a week, I would do a larger backpack. I traveled for 3 weeks with a backpack and was able to shove it into the overhead bins on the plane as carry-on. Most (if not all) airlines let you bring carry on for free so you won't have to worry about extra luggage fees or wait for checked baggage.
i just went to marshals and got a small rolling samsonite suitcase that is the max size allowed as a carry on..
It's had about 200k air miles on it since then.. with multiple week long trips.
Marshalls is a great place to find bargains. All my luggage is from there and they are top brand that my wife picked up for a good price.
Marshalls or TJMaxx is a good place to pick up luggage. Top brands, like Samsonite. I have a couple different size bags I use, depending on where, how long, time of year and other things I might have to carry. I travel at least once a month but this year has been more than usual. I leave for my 14th trip of the year tomorrow morning and have 4 more I have to get complete before end of august. Has affected my autocrossing a lot not to mention the honey-dos. Since Uncle Sam buys the ticket I check bags and would pay the $25 even if it wasn't paid but frequent flyer miles has gotten me free bag check anyway. I do carry a backpack on the plane, a Walmart computer backpack that carries my reading material, GRM and CM is always in the bag when I leave.
Back to bags. 4 swivel wheels on the bottom makes it easier to roll. Checking a bag means less hassle through security, don't have to worry about the items in the shaving bag (or makeup bag, whatever applies ). I prefer bag color not as common, easier to spot at baggage pickup. Everyone has black bags, mine are maroon, green and light blue.

I never check bags and I fly every week, sometimes 2-3 times a week. A Samsonite carryon is perfect for a week if you know how to pack. Agreed on the swivel wheels, your shoulders will thank you.
Kohl's on sale. Name brand only.
Honestly,
Luggage fits into 3 grades
Gets you there maybe 10 times if your lucky
You fly once a month and want it last a couple of years
Your a pro and only want to do this once.
For the latter, the leader is Travel Pro. This is what a majority of flight crews and professional travelers use. It isn't cheap but it will last. Amazon does have them.
I travel in only 2 ways. Bindle sack, or plastic bag with my stuff double knotted. Never have to worry about damage to ether.
Given the BS weight limits on luggage, we found that lighter weight luggage was the only way to get enough stuff in our luggage.
Otherwise pack as little as possible and always keep a change of clothes and toiletries for at least a day with you in case you get separated from your luggage.
The 4-swiveling wheels are damned nice along with luggage meant to stack together (or pack a couple of ratchet straps/bungy's)

Estate sales are great places for luggage. My dad gave me a "set" of luggage that is probably worth about $500 if purchased new. He paid a total of $20.

While I drool over the lovely Rimowa lineup, the reality is that my budget is more of the paper bag variety.
However... I need really good luggage for all the traveling I do. Kijiji and Value Village have scored me a brand new Samsonite and a Roots carryon over the years. $15 and $20, respectively.

Thanks for the feedback so far.
The main issue... is SWMBO. she NEEDS more luggage than me. (not being sexist.. just being real). personally, I would be happy just stuffing everything in USARMY duffelbag.. as you cannot damage them... with anything, but she wants REAL luggage.
Why would you pay real money for luggage when every single goodwill or salvation army has great used luggage for a couple of bucks?

^^^ Yes!
My Samsonite carryon is gorgeous. Has four swivelling wheels, leather trim and beautiful burgundy patterned material. Heavy-duty retracting aluminum handle. It appeared to never have been used. I paid $15.
IF you have to check a bag, try to buy one in some crazy, godawful ugly print or color. They're easy to find on the belt amongst the billion black bags. My set is all red, which was fairly unusual three years ago when i got it. It's getting more common now so I got a cheap lime green luggage strap that I wrap around it just for identification.
I also thing the ugly ones get lost less often. Everyone remembers it when they see it.
