I went last year with friends, and aside from the sketchy parking arrangements and shifty eyed people, it was an absolute blast. I thought I would ask from our fantastic pool of members to see how you guys deal with parking and such?

Get there early! I'm talking already parking the car 10 minutes before they open in the morning. You have a chance at COBO roof parking (much less sketchy) and you beat most of the late risers so the crowds are smaller.
Also, going during the week gives you less crowds to fight (but you do have to avoid school field trip groups instead).
Park near Woodward for free and walk. It's safe.
Or up Washington st. Or Fort st.
By walking, you may find a bar you want to try.

We got there half an hour before they opened last year and parking was full, ended up stuck in an alley somewhere by suspicious people guiding traffic, I wasn't driving, so it wasn't my choice. We were actually pleasantly surprised to find the Yukon Denali still sitting where we left it however.
My method has always been to try to attend on Tuesdays. In between Noon and 2:00, out about 6:30 when the crowds begin to grow but after rush hour traffic has died. If I go at that time, Cobo Hall (the place) Rooftop parking is available. Leave your coat in the car and make the short walk to the building in the cold w/o your coat but then be free of your coat for the next hours. I think it is $10.
The Casinos used to run free shuttles. Check if they still do. They just want to get you in their building. I think it is free parking at the Casino and then a free bus ride to the front door of Cobo.
I usually parked at the Joe Louis garage or the old Ford Auditorium garage underneath Jefferson. Cobo roof deck is ideal if you get there early enough. There are tons of places to park within walking distance of Cobo.
Plus whatever on getting there early and parking on the roof. Failing that, the Joe Louis Arena garage is close enough to make the walk without a coat if you're a hardy northerner. Of course, coat check is like $3, so...
Or you can park at Greektown, ride the people mover, and have a nice dinner at the end of the day.
We cheat and run a bus from our auburn hills office for the Industry days. Have to make plans to catch up with Adrian again this year.
Last year was the first year going for me. While it was a bit of a wait to get in I was able to grab a spot under cobo.
I've generally gone to either Cobo roof, Joe Louis, or the private garage that's just across Congress St.
I can't think of any sort of pre-paid/guaranteed parking. Maybe if you're some sort of super VIP. I park at COBO or the garage next to it.
We really should get a group together
I used to park at COBO on the roof. The only hassle was that there was always a line to get up there. Then one year I realized that Detroit can be pretty fun. We stayed at the Marriott and parked there. The first year we took the monorail and also used it to get to Greektown. Now we stay in Royal Oak and park by the Tigers stadium for proximity to Bucharest (beer and shwarma).
