Basically I am fixing to go on a 800 mile road trip and would like my parents and SWMBO to be able to check my progress without answering the phone every 10 min.

Is there an app out there that allows them to log into a website and check my position/progress?

Since Apple has an app called Find Friends, seems like everyone should have that.

Yes. What type of phone? WAZE is a naigation gps that also allows you to report where you are. If you have an android, if you share your log in info they can instantly track you via google.

There are dozens, with followmee being very popular.

Most require you to do something in order to post tracking information for them to see. That's fine, as long as you remember to do this. But if you forget, there is no data for them to see. Followmee allows a track by the way, not simply a locator pip of where you are right now. It can show your track for several days.

If you want it to passively show where you are and to let them see it pretty much any time, the likes of Google+ works wellish. You don't do anything once you set it up. It shows the circle of people you've given permission to the ability to see where you are, 24/7. Make sure you want that circle to see your phone 24/7. Wife and I and the kid have this on our phones, and very carefully do not use it often, in the name of some privacy.

For an instantanious "where are you" sort of thing, the likes of WMD (stands for where's my droid) pings the phone via text message, and has it fire off the GPS for location. Very useful for not only finding lost phones, but for finding lost family members on road trips.

I've used Glympse for this purpose and it works great. IIRC, they also support dashboard integration with Ford SYNC and Android Auto. You can set it to expire your "Glympse" (the app and an instance of a location share have the same name) after an amount of time, or when you reach a certain location.

Waze is my favorite navigation app by far, and it has this built in.

You'll need to log in to post.
