I feel like eBay gets a much larger audience for my stuff than marketplace, and usually that results in sales that are more $$ (plenty to make up for the cost, but also time in responding to scammers/ ridiculous questions). I usually feel like eBay fees are well worth it. As a buyer, im a pretty trusting guy, but firing off paypal friends and family and just hoping that someone on the other end of fb marketplace will ship me a part is questionable. eBay is much more reputable in that respect - and this is probably because they are so hard on sellers.

Also, eBay lets you put in the package size and weight and will automatically calculate the shipping cost for the buyer. That way the buyer pays shipping (and they get to see how much of the price is the shipping). If I have a shippable part, I take photos, box, measure/weight, and then post on eBay. When it sells, I print the label and drop it at the post office. Easy.

Yeah, sure, occasionally you get a buyer who abuses the system. My feeling is meh. I wanted the stuff out of the garage and to someone who would use it to begin with. It's not my livelihood nor is the amount of money on the line critical, so therefore I have the privilege of not worrying too much about "getting ripped off".  I've had people claim the part they got from me was faulty or whatever, but I have also had people buy a $20 valve cover from me on a forum and then complain about its condition and ask for refunds and such. This is definitely a "pick your battles" situation.

Do you want to sell the stuff or not? eBay usually sells it while everyone else lets you keep it.

Very true about the forums.  I still have some corrado parts in my basement to sell, but had to give myself a breather from dealing with people.  And this is a very niche group of people that are hard core enthusiasts...

Idk, Facebook Marketplace is awful, but also seems to have an uncanny ability to make things vanish for more money than I thought possible. And they vanish for cash instead of for whatever the latest annoying payment app is. I've never had something last for more than a few days on Facebook, even when I priced it crazy aggressively.

I still sell stuff on ebay all the time, just dropped 3 items off at the post office this morning. Several hundred items sold per year. Yes, the fees are annoying and come out to ~10%. The tax reporting thing is a big question mark because it hasn't gone into effect yet. Yes, shipping has gone up for heavy stuff, but the Ebay system is streamlined well and you just have to estimate the cost appropriately for your listings. I wish there was a solution that didn't take as big a cut, but there just isn't. The biggest benefit is you don't really have to deal with the customer on Ebay for the most part. Facebook, I've got to meet with people, deal with them never having cash and always wanting to use Venmo/CashApp/Apple pay or whatever the latest thing is, and dealing with the "what's your bottom dollar" question on every item. That gets old. I still use marketplace for stuff I don't want to ship, though.

While Ebay isn't my favorite, the alternative is to scrap a lot more stuff. Even if I'm taking some hit on fees and whatnot, the financial return of reselling things I don't need is pretty significant, so I keep doing it.

My guess is Marketplace works a lot better if you live in or near a larger city.
