Legit car insurance comparison websites?

Is there such a thing?

I'm trying to get a couple of car inswearants quotes for the cars I'm considering and I'm having a whale of a time doing so - State Farm's (our current insurer) website appears to be utterly useless when it comes to the hard task of "just give me a berkeleying quote for a single car without modifying the existing policies", Allstate's isn't that much more helpful either (try putting in a loan start date for a car you haven't bought yet and it throws a fit) so it looks like it's back to Flo or the Lizard to just get an indicative quote for a car I might or might not buy.

So, is there any website that allows me to put in the details and get a quotes from multiple insurance companies or do I have to retype the details into each and every website?

I call my agent and ask her what it would cost to add X car to the policy. She calls back within 10 minutes. Having an actual VIN helps but make/model/year will get it close enough.

Ya your agent better be able to answer these questions easily quickly and painlessly. If not I refinement new insurance/agent

That would generally be a good plan apart from the little detail that our agent only works Monday-Friday

I've used Allstate's Ballpark Estimating Tool to "ballpark" a potential car buy. I'll get an estimate for my current car and then compare that result to the 'prospect' car and get an idea of how much more or less I might be paying.

Nope, you won't be able to find one. Insurance departments have their own underwriters who set a price based on your individual application. So there really isn't a website that you'll find that can do that for you. You could go to an independant insurance agent, and they can get qoutes from all the companies they sell.

which reminds me our insurance policy is due to expire here in a month or 2... might be time to see what others are offering these days lol

That seems to have worked reasonably well. Our agent was able to quote me over the phone within a couple of minutes, too.

For some odd reason the Boxster appears to be cheaper than the S2000. Makes me wonder if she accidentally quoted me for a Boxster instead of a Boxster S.

not looking to change co. ... but my Mom just bought a new Fit ... full coverage ($250 deductible) costs more per 6mo than my 3 cars (one with full coverage) put together ... really hard to wrap my head around this .... (no explanation from the agent .. just a shoulder shrug)
