1) Correct

2) Gravy is gravy.  It's all good.

3) Not if done correct.  Boil them, mash them, make into little biscuits/cakes and fry in butter.  Greatness but don't eat them as leftovers.

4) Pecan pie.

I didn't think we were gonna, I'm a big dark meat fan and like you I don't like sissy gravy. I'm kind of indifferent to yams but pumpkin pie is a waste of crust and a waste of a pumpkin that could have been thrown off an overpass.

Happy thanksgiving to my American cousins to the south.

I think you're spot on with one exception. Sweet potato casserole is awesome.

Any other animal> Turkey, but if Turkey is a must you are correct.

I prefer twice baked potatoes, though I have had good sweet potatoes, when loaded with brown sugar and marshmallow.

1) Dark meat is my preference.

2) Stampie is right, gravy is gravy. All good.

3) Sweet potatoes are okay.

4) Pumpkin pie is good, I can't think of a dessert that I don't like.

Getting into the details of all of these, the reason dark meat is better is because dark meat takes longer to cook.

By the time the dark meat is cooked, the white meat is over done and dry.

There is one technique for roasting turkey, where the breast meat gets iced, while leaving the legs and thighs at room temperature. Then the white meat isn't dry.

Sweet potatoes and yams come down to personal preference, but preparation always makes a difference.

I don't use pumpkin in my pumpkin pie. I roast butternut squash in the oven, it's a much more delicate flavor.  I then make the same type of pie, and it's delicious.

In reply to Javelin :

I generally prefer cow. I'd rather have a good steak than deal with roasting a bird.  But I don't make those decisions, so it's turkey at moms place.

I'd rather turkey than lamb, but neither are high on my list.
Sweet potatoes will be eaten if they're a small part of a larger dish. Wife uses them a lot with rice and peppers and onions and chicken. It's all mixed together so I just deal with the wretched mush. But if there's a dish of only/mainly sweet potatoes, I'll pass.

1.  Turkey is turkey.

2.  Yes.  IMHO white gravy is for SOS, but if someone else cooks ....

3.  Sweet potatoes should be french fries.

4.  I've had good and not so good.  Pecan is too sweet, heavy and teeth clenching after a big meal.  Pumpkin roll?  Sorbet and a dessert wine?

White gravy is for holding bits of sausage over top of homemade biscuits.  Nothing else.

Dark bird meat is far superior.  Keep your breast meat, I'll take the thighs any day.

I'm not sure I could ever agree on a "best" pie.  I had pumpkin, apple, and some cheesecake tonight and they were all delightful.

Sweet potatoes are awesome.  But they don't need marshmallows.

1) dark meat is indeed superior

2) gravy is gravy

3) roasted yams with bacon casserole is the E36 M3.

4) cheesecake. The end

Dark meat.

White gravy is for sticking newspaper articles in a scrapbook.

I didnt like sweet potatoes until I realized they could be baked and eaten like a real potato, without being covered by sugar or marshmallows or other things that dont belong on vegetables.

Pies should be double crust fruit filling, with only one exception.  Lemon merangue pie  home made with my mother's recipe.  Pumpkin pie is second worst, with only pecan pie being worse.

I like sweet potatoes cubed small and baked with olive oil, salt and pepper. Then consumed alongside bbq pork and baked beans.

Redskin potatoes mashed with an indecent amount of cream and other good stuff are best at thanksgiving.

So here's a free tip for all you Turkey fans.

Get yourself a triangle rack. I'm having trouble finding one online at the moment, but it's 2 triangles with a spanning rod that allows you to cook the turkey breast down. This lets it stay in the oven long enough for the dark last to cook without drying out all the light meat.

And I have to qualify the first one:  Dark meat is better hot; light meat is better cold.

We had a fish fry for Thanksgiving.  We rock.  Walleye and Bass that we caught this summer and froze.  Guinness and pancake mix beer batter.  We had some traditional stuff too, like stuffing and pumpkin pie, but my nephew made a blueberry-coconut pie with a graham cracker crust that was amazing.

Unpopular opinion... I hate mashed potatoes.  Mealy, flavorless starch paste.

Mashed potatoes are just a carrier for butter and salt.
