The concept car thread got me thinking.

What vehicles out there are blatant copy of others? Are they a shameless rip-off or a tribute?

My vote for shameless rip-off goes to:

Everything the Honda Accord stole from Mercedes.  Everything Hyundai stole from Honda including the 'duh' meme for their ads - Irony they haz it.

Everything Hyundai has stolen from Mercedes.  And everything China has stolen from ... well everybody.  laugh

These may actually be licensed from Jeep as off-road only.  Local powersports shop sells them.

I was going to say, everything these days looks the same anyway, but I guess I'm just getting old.

Maybe not.

Which also means if one were to be passed be a FoRS, when you catch the guy at the next light you can put him in his place by leaning out the window and yelling “Man, that’s a fast corolla.”

What's with the manufacturers using industrial/commercial colours on their cars these days?

I saw a new Toyota truck yesterday that looked like it was painted with garage floor paint. It was disgusting.

That color is paint code 1H5. It’s called Cement and it is hugely popular around here.

I like that grey color.  At least it's not metallic.  Some Subarus have a similar color and so does Audi.  I'm not a huge fan of Audi's styling but an RS7 in that battleship grey went blasting by me and I thought it looked the business.  It was really crying out for some orange Sparco wheels, though.

I don't think you can meaningfully apply this concept to modern cars, since they all Berking look the same anyway.

We should go back to an era when cars actually had some character:

shocker that it was an Audi 'blasting by.'  Shocker.  Bet his hootus was rock hard.  Teslas are in that category too.  Well after a hard day charging interest on the repayment of interest ya gotta get past all the little people.  indecision

I feel justified in despising every one of these things on the road.

Don't get me wrong I understand the attraction.  A lot of them are well styled if you get can by the huge bloatiness.

I get that today you need to run a Tough Mudder or Spartan race to feel like a man.

Tall big vehicles that serve no more utility than taking away the neighborhood kids imaginations by shuttling them to 'practice' of some sort fill a therapeutic void I'm sure of it.indecision

I've lately taken a real liking to all the red colors driving by lately.  A 370Z in Passion Red Tri-coat - he was driving like a douche tho'.

A Honda in a shade of red that really got my attention.  Usually these are all in the dullest colors possible.  It was either San Marino Red or Radiant Red Metallic - looked great.

Hyundai has a nice red similar to the 370Z/Accord color I saw. smiley

I used to think all vehicles looked the same due to safety regulations- but now, I honestly think it's more because everything gets so focus grouped and massaged to be as 'attractive' to as many people as possible. Which, yeah it's just marketing and capitalism, but it's so drab...

The Bentley and the 300 are clones. The lincoln I see more modern Mercedes or Audi.

Since moving to SE from NW I haven't been walking lately so I did go from downtown to home earlier this month.

In a city that can not shut the absolute berkeley up about diversity I lost count of the number of Paneras, Chipotles, Five Guys, Subways, LePain Quotidiens, Cosis, etc, etc, etc, etc,  that I walked by in about an hour.

People are brain dead.  I'm sorry I shouldn't say that but look around.  We're wallowing in E36 M3 - massively overpriced E36 M3 at that. indecision

I suppose my Instagram posts should give me some hope but naw once those people die and the old places get yuppified DC will be just as sterile as Arlington Va.

I suppose I should have some hope.  Whilst taking some 20 somethings from a suburban part of Arl. to the downtown of Arl.  they were joking about how each neighborhood in the region has to get the newest small franchise to add to their identity.

&Pizza, and Matchbox, Teds Bulletin, small local corporations ready to go nationwide and in every single berkeleying popular neighborhood region wide.

Each one packed and minting money.

One sandwich chain was an absolute machine and beloved of by every douche for a hundred miles until the owner lauded a particular politician and his sales plummeted 40% the very next day.  The very next day.  He went bankrupt.  Zombies.  Zombies.  Unthinking do what everyone else is doing Zombies.

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  At least my hood has a pizza joint from the 1936 if I remember correctly the sign outside and the YES organic mkt failed miserably.  There is of course absolutely nothing else over here.  Well liquor stores but not too many thankfully.

I remember an English motoring journo lauding the 'swage line' on these Rovers way back in the '80s as a counter to the bland Euro look of everything back then.
