I picked up a set of EMG jazz pickups for my 8-string conversion, and was kinda disappointed in them. They certainly don't suck, but they don't have the typical EMG sound I'm used to.
That said, when I was researching these(that I got unused off Marketplace), I discovered EMG has a whole bunch of different jazz pickups. I'd watched YouTube vid doing back-to-back comparisons on some, but I couldn't really tell a difference on my phone.

I ran a set of DC40(?) 5 string humbuckers for years in my main rigs. Loved them for metal. Very clear. When things are less distorted I really like the Bartolinis in my B4, though I don't like the same pickups in my buddy's smaller mahogany/maple Cort with the fancy finish (mine is open grain ash with a rosewood/maple neck). My Jazz bass has some unmarked passives that are amazing, and I have no idea if they're cheap copies or legit Fender offerings or something else. The bass came to me as is and it's older than I am. I had a cheap p/j with passive EMGs iirc and I didn't much care for them. Everything I've owned has been so different that I don't really have apples to apples comparisons regarding bass pickups.

How do you get your bass player to go home?
Pay him for the pizza he delivered.

I played with that guy for a while. Until his GF dumped him. Seriously
Edit: that happened at least twice, with different drummers, nearly 30-years apart.

Let me first clarify that I’m not linking this post to the meme in any way!
How’s Mr.Walking Bass cabinets doing? Has he been able to play with y’all again? I hope so and if not I hope that happens soon.

He's doing better and better everyday, the road is still long for him but he's doing a lot better, even chopping his own firewood.
Sadly none of us are really doing much music, too busy all summer really. Also tracking down a good drummer is kinda hard these days.
Soon though we will be playing again, even if it means we start doing collaborative stuff online, not playing is getting to me.

No, in point of fact, it is not. However, as a bass player I am very much cold. Now adopt me dammit!!!
That moment when you find out that amongst the bits and pieces that you got when you traded a guitar for another one, there is an 80s-tastic effects pedal that was only made for three years and asking prices from the on Reverb are more than for the guitar you traded for it.
Guess I better figure out if the pedal actually works.

That sounds like a DOD, maybe a Buzz Box? Gonkulator?

Ibanez Session Man SS-10 - combined distortion and chorus pedal. Doesn't get more 80s.
My super old Fender acoustic had worn frets and wasn't worth fixing so I was just playing electric for a year or so. Mrs Crankwalk pulled the trigger on this Taylor 214CE Dlx without any of my input. I love the smell of Sitka spruce on a Christmas morning.

Merry Christmas all

My Xmas present from the wife.
Major Iommi fan here and I love it

Somehow I've never connected up the Bugera to the Drive 4x12 can and the mixture is utterly fantastic.
The cab is ported and the company only existed for like...3 years. It was incredibly cheap and now I want another.
If anyone runs across a Drive g412 Elite cab, please let me know

I'm a big fan of EMG pickups, but I haven't used the j bass ones before. Any passive single coil pickup is going to have some hum, but shouldn't be enough to cause any issue except at high gain, higher volume. I know the Duncan 1/4 pounder pickups are popular. I wish I knew what my Japanese j copy is loaded with so I could recommend them, but they have no markings.
I picked up the bass after the setup was done yesterday. Speaking with the owner, John Koontz a widely respected Detroit area setup guy, he strongly recommended the EMG active pickup retrofit system utilizing two neck pickups. Quietest pickups for my bass he said. I need to do further research before I pull the trigger on these.
In reply to wawazat :
Neck pickups would mean they are lower output and less bass response usually

He mentioned to me when I dropped the bass off that the OEM Fender pickups hummed and that if I were to replace them I should measure them first. I thought he was referring to the electrical specs but he clarified that he meant physically. Looking at the EMG site last night after picking up the bass it shows the mounting holes for the neck pickup and bridge pickup are slightly different. Before I do anything I'll put my calipers on the pickups to verify this is what he was referring to.

Sounds like I should keep my day job...and avoid adopting anyone!
Welp, we now have two guitar owners in the house.
