They are stamped, but thicker than most and have almost an extra flange at that top edge. Tama is a bit light on literature,  mostly just says "developed for the SLP series drums, enhances sensitivity and voice."

My first reaction is "looks like those edges are going to eat sticks" but we shall see. I'm excited to get a better head on it. My teacher is trying to get me to try this faux-fiber head he uses, and another buddy recommended an Aquarian triple-threat. Both are good for tightening up any nasty overtones, but this drum sounds so good that I'm not sure either is really necessary. Tracking should commence either this week or next. I'm stoked. 

I'm a HUGE fan of the Aquarian Triple Threat snare batter heads, and Aquarian heads in general. I've been using them for years, and they sound killer on just about every snare I have tried. I have one on my Magstar Custom Maple and my 90's Pearl Sessions right now. Only downside is they are harder to find than Remo and Evans heads.

I've heard pretty good things about these. I guess they are made in the same factory as the Harley Benton stuff, but they are unboxed and set up by Monoprice in California and then repackaged.

Indio is well loved by modders and professionals for starter/touring instruments. 

I have too many guitars but that's a heckuva good price.

I confess I'm kind of a string-through bridge snob when it comes to Teles, but the teal HSS Strat copy is neat.

I'm a big fan of hydraulic heads in general and on snares in the right situation.

If done with the right snare it's can be a cannon shot

I'm still having dirty thoughts about that Tele and adding a cheap rail in the bridge. Talk about a cheap screamer! But no... my moratorium on new instruments is still in place. Gotta stick to the plan.

I have the pre-Indio Monoprice version of that guitar.  I'm not a player by any means but it's a way better starting point (I think I paid $120.00) than it has any right to be.  Low action, decent tone from the stock pickups for what they are, stays in tune.  The finish is really nice too.

Just welcomed in a American Vintage II '57  reissue. Light relic work, nitro finish. It feels really good and I've been playing it on the neck pickup for hours without touching much.

I'd ship it to a GRMer for $180. Make sure your kid is serious though. While it isn't a high end drum, that's still quite a bit to spend for one piece of a kit.

Some flavor of Peavey Patriot. Not sure on the details but a quick search shows I should be able to play it for a while and double my money on the back end when it moves on. Included hard factory case. Both need a serious cleaning. I think the case foam melted somehow. Left a sticky goo everywhere

and while there are no strings, the frets have a lot of wear. Someone loved this thing. And then nobody loved it for a long time. Check out the frets:

the whole neck looks like that. Also, these pickups are new to me. I'm guessing they are some sort of p-90 based rail. Time for some elbow grease and love. Excited to string it up and plug it in.

peavey has a tool to date serial numbers. This is a 1983. Made in USA. It's pretty neat. It's a 2-piece neck, jointed right down the middle. Supposedly super strong. It's arrow straight, even with all the obvious neglect and heated storage. The hardware is all really solid, typical Peavey. The pickups are hot single coil rails. Master V/T with a 3-way. Better than a strat, because the volume control is safely out of the way, and it's a proper 24.75 scale. 

Unfortunately, the paint is roached on the back. I thought it was just caked with shmoo, but the shmoo ate the topcoat. If I keep it, I likely won't touch it. If I sell, probably a paint job. We'll see. it was likely stored somewhere hot, likely for a long time. The case is molded plastic, and had some foam glued in. Heat turned the foam and glue into a paint-dissolving goo, and wobbled the pick guard. The guard can be saved easily enough, or left alone since it isn't that bad. 
I also apparently used the last set of strings I had so I'll grab some on Monday and do the thing. Should be good. Not that I need another. Especially another in the same color.

SCORE on that Patriot! 1980's Peaveys are absolute tanks, and even in the condition you have there, I bet with some cleaning and a setup, it will be fine. The hard plastic cases Peavey used in the 80's were lined with fur stuff and that adhesive turns into sticky tar goop on most of them. My Foundation S bass was covered in it when I got it, and yup, so was the inside of the case. Took me hours to get it all removed on mine, and I got lucky and most of the finish was still intact. Those pickups are supposed to be fantastic, too. 

It is... not what I expected. Those rails just look so metal, even though I knew they were singles. Through my Champ clone and through my orange it sounds like a high end strat, but with ass. Thick and punchy, but with that single coil clarity and shimmer. It's SRV meets Sir Mix-a-lot. 
 

I haven't done a full setup yet, but I set the intonation and adjusted things enough to play and get a feel. 24.75 scale, 12" radius, and what I'd call a medium C profile, wider than a strat, almost as wide as my explorer. It fits very well. I'll try to finish the setup tomorrow and see how it rides the overdrive at a bit more volume.  It may stay a while. 

Spent the evening scraping the shmoo out of the case so I can safely store the thing away from kid fingers. Scraped as much as I could, then used some denatured alcohol to try and remove the sticky residue. It mostly worked. But then I was left with molded plastic. So I thought, what is fitting for a 1980s shred machine? 
 

There was really only one possible answer. 

An old pair of Levi's. We'll see how it holds up. definitely needs some supplemental padding, but it's late. 
 

Also, finished the setup. Got the action nice and fast. Required adjusting the neck joint. It has a micro-angle adjuster like some Fender stuff. Loosen the neck screws, and adjust with a 1/16 Allen key. Pretty slick. Half a turn goes a long way. Then set the saddle height and finalize the intonation. It's good. Really good. I forget just how smooth and fast a nice maple fretboard is. I mean, it won't replace my LP or Explorer, but it may be a fitting replacement for the sometimes-mutinous Jr Jet. Also, forgot to mention in the case was a clip-on tuner and a period correct strap.

In other news, I swapped the PAFs in the explorer with the burstbuckers that I had in the Gretsch. But then it was midnight so I couldn't plug in the explorer. Excited to hear how it sounds with the hotter pups.

Anyone like weird Ibanez? This is an ADD120, nade for only one year and I never play it. I should really flip it so I can get other stuff I barely play since I've had it for years. It's not perfect but if someone here is interested it's a hell of a rare guitar.

But I have a lot of guitars I don't play at all and I should use the money for something else.

Or I'll finally buy an Explorer with the proceeds lol
