That's probably gonna be the winner right there. I have a gift card and something that I'd like to trade in so Cabela's really is the easy button. I'll look through the used rack while I'm waiting for an appraisal but I'll most likely be taking home a new Henry.
Gift card to Cabela's probably trumps a sale elsewhere, but before I bought mine, Academy was putting them on sale roughly once a month for $259.99 or $269.99. I haven't been watching them since I bought one but I imagine they're still a frequent sale item.

+10 on the Marlin 39A. My friends and I have had tons of fun on the back 40 acres with one of those. There wasn't a frog or squirrel left within sight.
This was also when a brick of 22 ammo was $20
In reply to NEALSMO:
I might give an older Marlin the edge over a modern Henry, but since The Freedom Group/Remington bought Marlin back in '08, the general consensus has been to avoid new Marlin products, sad really.
Rule of thumb, if it ain't a "JM" stamped Marlin, don't buy it.
Just saw that Henry for $274 at Walmart.

In fact she got 500 rounds of CCI Quiet-22 for Christmas from her dad, and I didn't get anything shooting related. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)

Marlins are local, which I like, but, and this seems silly, but I just don't like the look of the curved lever.
They made a version called the 39 Mountie that was shorter and had a straight stock.
