Anyone out there make a Little Free Library?
We have a few of them in neighborhoods that we run in, and my wife has always wanted on.
Well, thanks to me for having her come with me as I scrounged for my own parts, she bought some things to start one, and we did. Could have built one from the plans on the website, but thought it would be fun to look at our recycling center to see if we could find something.
And we found an old, wooden, file drawer with a simple frame around it. So while it was not exactly taking free stuff from my basement (which I was marginally able to finish one) it was fun to turn something that was to be inside to one that will spend time out front with books in it.
Should have taken pictures, but we spent all day doing it instead of taking pictures. Maybe I'll shoot one before my wife paints it.
We will have a small free library along the sidewalk in front of our house. Fun!
I think they're cool but I've yet to see one with anything I'd like. In fact just about every one is full of books that are 180 of what I normally read. That happens when you live in an homogeneous community where 95% agree with one another all the time and you're not one of them.
On another note I Spring cleaned my storage garage that I jumbled everything into last summer. Damn I have a lot of books! Need to get my own place again even if it would bump my combined housing expenses at least $300 a month. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)

There are a few around here, and I think they're really neat. Would love to build one at some point, but I'm not holding my breath for that getting to the top of the to-do list...
This was a big thing in Tacoma and we LOVED it. I always wanted to build one that looked like the front view of our house but never got a round tuit. :(

Never heard of this, what's the concept?

I built one for my Mom. She lives next door, so we all participate. We were the first in town to do it, and I am still only aware of a couple. Been doing it for about 3 years.
I'll get some pictures.

In reply to patgizz:
The concept: You put a small "library" in an obvious place in your yard. A decorative box, oversized birdhouse, etc. You fill it with books you are willing to part with. Most have a sign that says "Take a book, leave a book"
People take what they want, and leave what they want.

This is the one I built for my Mom:

I built it out of a couple of old windows. There is a nice bench/ sitting area nearby under a tree.
This is a awesome idea. I have 1000s of books I'd love to share.
Thanks!
I have another project. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/cool-18.png)
We got our tag and registration today. Tomorrow my wife should finish painting it, but I won't put it in if it's raining- as it's supposed to tomorrow.
