This happened in Ocala over the weekend. The Corvette driver was thrown 154 feet according to the article. A Mustang was racing him. There are photos of the Mustang driver but no I.D. yet. I know he's E36 M3ting bricks.
Don't know about the condition of the Corvette driver. Don't be dumb. Race on a track, kids. (Edit: Vette driver survived with serious injuries. Wow.) Both drivers are in their late 30's.

Idiots gonna idiot. We can only hope they don't take anybody innocent with them in their idiocy.
Some moron at a "meet" locally just put their car into a stormwater retention pond doing a burnout / donut. The police report said that the driver was rescued unhurt.
To which my response was "That's too bad." Stupid should hurt, at least the stupid person.
I didn't realize Ocala had such a hot street racing community.
Holy crap, that is absolute carnage
In reply to camopaint0707 :At 8:45AM on a VERY busy 6 lane highway.
Unrelated, I drove past this spot 2 hours later. I didn't notice anything, but I was, you know, driving at the time.
requesting FMV on corvette brakes.
too soon?

I can't imagine there's was enough of the corvette driver left to be a condition of.
I've had all sorts of carnage videos of overly aggressive motorcyclists show up on my facebook feed lately. I have to say that one of the perks of aging is not letting those self-destructive urges turn you into roadkill.
There's something kind of pathetic about those side airbags- almost humorous.
I have to wonder what the speed was when it started hitting crap?
Wow that might be the most plane-crash-like car wreck I've ever seen. Amazing that the driver survived. Recently had a friend die in a wreck (hit by some maniac driving into oncoming traffic on the interstate) where the cars largely stayed in one piece.
Reminds me of a clip I saw from Trinidad where a guy slid into a tree at high speed with a '90s Corolla, If you slow it down you could see the car basically explode on impact around the guy who was left floating in midair for a second. Don't know what happened there but I can't imagine he survived.

I'm sure they help if the car still has doors...

You could certainly say "The energy dissipated"

Some of this carnage MAY be from Fire/Rescue cutting the car apart to get the occupants out...
Whether it's an engine block or just a side view mirror, you don't want one slamming your house at speed, but what if it hit a kid on a bicycle? You E36 M3 heads belong in jail.
In reply to gsettle :
I think the driver was pre-extracted in this case.

Was just about to post this meme. Because truth for this, and locally for me right now.
In semi related news, Nick Hogan or whatever his real name is was arrested AGAIN for DUI this weekend in Clearwater. The same town he crashed his daddy's Supra while under the influence and left a guy a vegetable for life.
See, this is why we need more enthusiast vehicles with low HP. Take the xB, I get to race every day on the street, but it's fine because nobody can tell I have it floored anyway. Perfect.

Judging by the seats, it's a C7 Z06.

I get it and this is true in some places but not here in Florida. We have tracks EVERYWHERE. Being in Ocala they were probably about a hour away from the Firm who has track days like three times a week.
