I'm looking for either a becker mexico or europa radio for my mercedes. I have a modern alpine in it, I didn't realize the evil I did by putting a modern radio in a vintage car, but the alpine looks pretty ridiculous. I am going to take the alpine and put it into the pickup truck to make that car easier to live with until it dies.

If you have or find a vintage europa or mexico you'd like to sell let me know. You might see one in the junkyard in an older mercedes.

I'm looking for the purdy one also. Look at the photo and you'll know what I mean.

Nothing to add other than that I've seen a really cool looking Panasonic vintage radio that I think would go well in any car over 20 years old. Probably thief bait though.

That is too cool, why did you show it to me. Luckily, I don't think radios are worth anything any more, my alpine is a 100$ stereo. Every thing is bluetooth, gps, mp3, etc that old stuff is just forgotten about.

They are the coolest stereo's I've seen for sure. Pricey too, they were only sold in Japan so you have to ebay them. I've decided that I don't care that much about it.

Psh, actually answering the question asked is way overrated.

I want one of those Panasonic lumps in my fantasy wide-body Starion. With the Beastie Boys' 'Licensed to Ill' on a permanent loop.

Those aren't actually vintage at all. They were made just a couple years ago.

But they certainly somewhat LOOK the part, don't they?

There's an EXCELLENT chance that one of those two will end up in my MX6. Stay tuned. (no pun intended. grooooaaaannnn)

Here's some other potential options?

Or you could go old school aftermarket?

Pretty much every Volvo prior to 1986 or so had a shaft mount radio. Most of them were AM/FM, and most of those have plugs on the back to insert a connector for the detached cassette player. There are instructions online for wiring that plug up to a headphone jack so you can hook up your XM/Ipod player. They are in every u-pull-it for $10.

Ah so that is how MP3 addition works on the old radios, thanks for the info Oldopelguy. I know if you send your Becker radio or New Jersey becker tests cleans the radio and for 100$ you can get the MP3 connectivity. I'd put it in the back of the radio and have the input in the glovebox.

That panasonic is just cool, I probably wouldn't even know how to work it, thanks for derailing my school of thought.

I'm thinking about talking to the funky stereo guy and seeing what he want for his mexico as my car needs some southern exposure. I guess the radio guy has a 1980 450sl they used at a auto electronics show and it has multiple amps, subs, etc. I'm not a real music technophile, loud motorcycles took that portion out of my hearing.

Thanks for the help and tips folks!

That is very awesome. My only concern would be that at 88mph you get transported back to a time before the Roswell visitors gave us the transistor! ;-)

I am guessing that you are not very old. CD players, to my mind, are in no way old school.
