Don't know how accurate it is.
I don't know how accurate this story is either but I was once told that Talladega Gran Prix Raceway was created as a means to keep the builder's spawn out of jail and/or the morgue. Seems he/they loved to race motorcycles on the twisty roads that wander through the adjacent national forest. It was decided to construct a racetrack to accommodate the need-for-speed. I guess if one has a deep love for one's kids, deep pockets and some vacant farmland in rural Alabama, a racetrack may seem like a pretty good idea. It turned out it was good enough to host semi-pro motorcycle events, a whole lot of kart races, SCCA solo events and (maybe) an SCCA regional race or two. It may be rather primitive but it sure is fun to drive.
