And that doesn't even take into account all the massive flooding along the Arkansas River corridor. The River Spirit Casino in Tulsa, closed Wednesday of last week, and is closed indefinitely until the water recedes and they can assess and fix the damage. Then lots of homes in West Tulsa and Sand Springs.

Thankfully here in OKC, we got lots of rain and few storms, I think the tornado sires only went off twice, but there was nothing that happened near us.

Man, good luck and stay safe out there everyone!  Looking at that map it all skirts over my state perfectly, pretty wild weather.

We've already broken the state average for tornadoes this year, and the storms haven't been letting up at all.

I don't mean to seem insensitive but 7 deaths seems like a very low number.  Even less, there were only 4 death storms.

Just seems surprisingly low.

This is only over a less than two week period...

Just seems surprisingly low.

Advancements in early warning systems, more/more advandced shelters and advanced building codes in tornado prone areas.

All of these are part of what makes the difference.

Which highlights the amount of storms which is exactly what the graphic is about.

This. I know in Oklahoma basically every new home is built with an underground shelter in the floor of the garage. If you're already spending $150k or much more on a house, $3k added to it for a storm shelter is a no-brainer.

We've had fewer in Kansas than normal, at least up until this past week. The big one nearby Tuesday was EF-4, nearly a mile wide, and on the ground for 32 miles. Only minor injuries.

It was frustrating to watch it live on tv (helicopter camera) and watch people drive right into it. It was rain-wrapped, but come on! Weather alerts and sirens were everywhere.

I’m really glad we’re only at risk for the occasional waterspout that wanders inland a short distance. While it can cause damage, it’s no EF-3/4/5.

Of course hurricanes are another story, but at least we have time to GTFO for them.

We're up to 13-14 tornadoes just in the Dayton area.

Considering the thread title reads "May 2019 All the Tornadoes as of Yesterday"

That seems a bit misleading...

And now I'm reading news stories about how the people who bought in a flood plain are pissed that it flooded. That the government should have never allowed subdivisions to be built in those areas.

I was actually interested in looking at some homes in both Sand Springs neighborhoods that were hit. My realtor flat-out said, "No. The reason those houses are noticeably cheaper is because they are in flood plain."

Guess what I then did? I removed from contention any house that was in a flood plain.

Never been in a tornado or near one,  what's the best thing to do if you are on the highway and you see one in front of you ?

Do you also need to look up in the storm clouds to see if any are up there but have not hit the ground yet ?

We have had a few whirlwinds at car shows that have taken ez-up canopies and chairs up into the air ,

Stay safe

Drive away from its path at right angles, if possible. Find shelter, which may mean knocking on random doors if you're way out in the country. Avoid underpasses, as they'll funnel the wind and flying debris; you'll end up dead. I think the same is true for ditches, but cannot recall specifically.

Don't try to outrun it. You'll lose. Get away from the path and find shelter.

Typically to the west since almost all tornadoes, at least here in Tornado alley, follow a SW to NE track. So if it's front, turn west and haul a$$ as soon as possible.

I have zero experience with tornados. You guys are brave souls to play that particular brand of roulette. I'd probably crap my pants every time they went off if we had tornado sirens around here.

I do wish we could get the local weather people to understand that we don't need a week of 24 hour frantic coverage for a hurricane. An update every hour or two would be fine until T minus 24 hours.
